There have always been problems there, and there will probably always be problems there. The question is ---- why do we have to fix it, and how much of our manpower and resources do you want to use trying to "fix" it? If we wait until there are no more problems there........we would probably be there forever.

yeah, the Afghan govt may not survive post American presence, but we can't stay there fighting the Taliban forever. That is what brought down the USSR.

He did. I suppose it will be a gradual shift from neoconservatism to non-interventionism. I am not exactly pleased with that move, but I am with bringing 2,000 home form Afghanistan.

?? You mean Bush Jr's war right? He invaded Afghanistan originally in 2001.

Yeah no. Just saying things doesn't make them true.

Also, LOLs, just reading up on this. Turns out Trump sent 3000 troops to Afghanistan in 2017 which brought the level from the previous 11,000 to 14,000. This means with the 2k withdrawal, there are now 12,000 US troops still in Afghanistan.

Barry said it, not me. I'm just quoting his lines. Trump is ending Obama's war of necessity

lol. So because Obama says it's "A" war of necessity, your brain automatically translates that to "A war of Necessity, that I started"?

Quite the translation matrix. You should get it looked at.

Bush Jr started the war in 2001 with the Operation Enduring Freedom. Obama continued it before ending formal operations in 2014. He withdrew troops after the Afghan President wouldn't sign the immunity pledge for US Troops. Now it's a NATO/UN Mission with multiple countries troops, and (now) 11K US Troops.

It was Obama who said it wasn't his war of choice, it was his war of necessity. When didn't withdraw troops in 2014, because of obama's failed policies in his "war of necessity" - the Taliban resurged, forcing us to keep 8400 troops there. Trump took office and gave the military, direct descision making ability...they briefly increased troops to fight the resurgence, and after winning, are now taking them home, ending the Obama "war of necessity"

This is disingenuous. Al Qaeda was based in Afghanistan. Not defending Bush or Obama or Trump. That war was initially a just war. It became nation building and has lasted far too long.

Yet those soldiers will not see home they are being repositioned into another country(SA).
And the two thousand less still make for 12k in Afghanistan...

How is the president bringing them home? We still have 200k troops deployed overseas-duh...
