In it they note that Mexico has effectively built the wall, that Mexico by marshaling thousands of their troops to prevent people from coming in and not going north to the U.S. is acting as the wall itself. Another promise kept.

Why some say Mexico already built Trump's wall -- and paid for it
The commander paces in front of a line of troops, preparing them for the day's mission.

"We are in our country. We are in Mexico. We are enforcing our laws," he says, his voice getting louder with each point he makes.
"Nobody is going to come here to trample on our laws," he continues. "Nobody is going come here to trample on our country, on our land."

Lawful immigration is good. We need immigrants. Illegal immigration is untenable. Our economy is being stressed to the limits.

It'll not likely happen but if Canada asked for USA help to keep illegals out of Canada the USA would enforce the laws and send them back.

Fake News! Some say that the earth is flat and hollow and others say that Big Foot told them.

I've made the same point previously, to the ire of the Trump haters here.

Every illegal who is prevented from entering the US saves us money ---- so in effect yes, Mexico is helping to "pay" to fix our illegal immigration problem, which was the point of the wall in the first place.

It is a good strategy, and Trump/Obrador seems to be a good working alliance.

If it is merit based lawful immigration, sure. But we don't need more people just for the sake of having more people, especially when they are more likely to be economic burdens rather than contributors to society and/or the work force.

To a degree yes. But there are countless menial labor jobs that are currently being done by illegals. Those same jobs need to be filled by legal immigrants because most Americans are not working them.

I still say we should reform welfare first ---- no more of this crap of folks thinking they are "too good" for certain jobs, while sucking from the welfare tit---- and maybe then see how much of a legitimate need we have for unskilled foreign labor.

Hardly. Trump promised his "big beautiful wall" as the solution to illegal immigration but this suggests an entirely different policy is a better idea. Maybe if he hadn't wasted so much time and money pushing his boondoggle new wall designs and spinning up claims of how much "new" wall is being built he could have focused on making this happen so much sooner.

There are only so many losers and criminals that Mexico can send to America.

But 10% of Mexico's citizens are already living in America.

Since 1824 after Mexico gained its independence from Spain, Mexico has always used California as a penal colony.

The Californios referred to these Mexican Mestizos who were removed from Mexico's prisons and jails and sent to California as cholos.

What is funny, today Mexican illegal aliens refer to Americans of Mexican descent as cholos.

    Why so many ???

Even when the American West needed to be settled, America's immigration levels were just a few hundred thousand per year.

    FYI for the low information:
When America immigration numbers are low, wages go up for the majority and the American middle class grows and becomes extremely prosperous like we saw during the 1950's when America was great.

Low immigration = prosperity for everyone.

Legal Immigration to the United States, 1820-1994
The 1965 changes unwittingly ushered in a new era of mass immigration. The current level of immigration is actually higher than the graph below indicates because illegal immigration is much higher now than ever before, with a conservative estimate of 300,000 new permanent illegal immigrants each year. The result is an influx of more than 1 million people a year, with no natural end in sight.

And what the cultural-marxist revisionist never mention, that approximately 1/3 of all immigrants who came to America before 1965 either couldn't assimilate or just didn't have the American pioneer spirit and got back on the boat and returned to Europe.

    Return Migration
Another factor in intensifying the impact of immigration is a reduced rate of emigration — that is, more of today's newcomers stay for their whole lives, rather than returning to the old country after a few years. Note that in the 1930s, emigration was higher than 100 percent, meaning that during the Great Depression more people left the country than entered.

The Mexican government doesn't want to be on the receiving end of Trump's economic wrath.

I like legal immigration. It's the foreign nationals who come and go unchecked and unregulated at will that victimize Americans.

I agree, they could have just helped seal Mexico's southern border. It is much smaller and easier to manage, and with Mexico's help, the tide of those caravan's would drop significantly instead of building an enormous wall in the middle of nowhere.

The problem with this solution vs something more permanent like "the wall" is that this solution is not permanent and could be subject to the whims of the Mexican government, whereas "the wall" would be permanent and does not make us reliant upon anyone else. Are you comfortable with the idea of the United States being so reliant upon Mexico when it comes to illegal immigration? Mexico could have a change of leadership, or a change of heart, and a new caravan could begin organizing the very next day.

While I applaud these moves by Mexico (and Trump's hand in it) I still think the US should continue with border security improvement, immigration/"asylum" reform, etc.

Here is an idea that is alien to Trump supporters, maintain a good relationshio with your neighbors, it works for all. Paranoia about your neighbors is hardly a sound policy maker.

We can maintain a good relationship without dependency.

And recognizing reality is not "paranoia".

I prefer independence and realistic approaches. I know, I know, that makes me sound really rightwing, but..... #sorrynotsorry

Here is an idea that is alien to liberals.....America is not the World's trash dump. Don't send your **** here. We need a wall so that the next time we get a flaming lib in the White House they won't be able to open the flood gates in an effort to gain more Dem voters...
