Perhaps this wasn't the first time around with a quid pro quo.

Did Trump Leverage a Missile Sale to Ukraine for Political Gain?
    https://foreignpolicy.com/2019/09/2...a-missile-sale-to-ukraine-for-political-gain/

"In a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart this summer, U.S. President Donald Trump appeared to suggest that he could use as political leverage Ukraine’s request for additional advanced U.S. missiles that Kyiv sees as critical to its ability to deter a Russian ground invasion.

The most recent call may not have been the first time Javelin missiles have been caught in the political crosshairs. In April 2018, just weeks after the U.S. State Department approved a $47 million sale of Javelins to Ukraine, Kyiv halted investigations by an anti-corruption prosecutor into Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, who worked for a decade for a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine, in an apparent effort not to rock the boat in Washington."

Ukraine, Seeking U.S. Missiles, Halted Cooperation With Mueller Investigation
    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/02/world/europe/ukraine-mueller-manafort-missiles.html

"The State Department issued an export license for the missiles on Dec. 22, and on March 2 the Pentagon announced final approval for the sale of 210 Javelins and 35 launching units. The order to halt investigations into Mr. Manafort came in early April.

Volodymyr Ariev, a member of Parliament who is an ally of President Petro O. Poroshenko, readily acknowledged that the intention in Kiev was to put investigations into Mr. Manafort’s activities “in the long-term box.”

“In every possible way, we will avoid irritating the top American officials,” Mr. Ariev said in an interview. “We shouldn’t spoil relations with the administration.”
    ......................................................................................................................
Drop the investigation in to Manafort and you get your missiles. Start an investigation in to the Biden's, or at the least announce you have started one, and you get your military aid. The aid the Pentagon thought was illegal to withhold.

It's clear now at the end of the public hearings the evidence of a quid pro quo, perhaps two, that is not widely known to the public in conjunction with that which is, will be overwhelming. Absolutely overwhelming. It is also likely the outcome of the Senate trial will not be based on the evidence. It will be based on the political calculus of Senate Repubs who will be weighing their chances of re-election should they take the side of the truth. And that my friends is a terrible indictment of the state of affairs in America.

Any thoughts about the........shall we say.........coincidence of timing between Ukraine dropping the investigation in to Manafort and them receiving the Javelin missiles?

In Ukraine, the quid pro quo may have started long before the phone call

On June 7, less than two weeks before Poroshenko’s White House meeting, Trump’s lawyer, Rudolph W. Giuliani, had visited Kyiv to give a speech for the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, headed by a prominent Ukrainian oligarch. While Giuliani was there, he also met with Poroshenko and his prosecutor general, Yuriy Lutsenko, according a news release issued by the foundation.

Just after Giuliani’s visit, Ukraine’s investigation of the so-called black ledger that listed alleged illicit payments to former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was transferred from an anti-corruption bureau, known as NABU , to Poroshenko’s prosecutor general, according to a June 15, 2017, report in the Kyiv Post. The paper quoted Viktor Trepak, former deputy head of the country’s security service, saying: “It is clear for me that somebody gave an order to bury the black ledger.”

It seems reasonable to think that Trump had gotten away with a quid pro quo in 2017. Giving him the feeling Ukraine could be persuaded to do his bidding in return for military assistance again when it came to investigating Old Joe and his kid.

Without facts? Giuliani spoke to the Ukrainian prosecutor who controlled the Manafort case. The investigation in to Manafort stopped as did cooperation with the Mueller probe. The paper quoted Viktor Trepak, former deputy head of the country’s security service, saying: “It is clear for me that somebody gave an order to bury the black ledger.” The Javelin missiles were delivered.
"Volodymyr Ariev, a member of Parliament who is an ally of President Petro O.

I'm convinced that we will be finding out that Trump did things like this, not only in Ukraine, but in other places.

"In another move seeming to hinder Mr. Mueller’s investigation, Ukrainian law enforcement allowed a potential witness to possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia to leave for Russia, putting him out of reach for questioning."

One thing about Trump is that he always returns to the well.

which is why Impeachment NOW is so important. If he gets away with this... he will do it again... only worse

Quid pro quo with every single country in the world. An anonymous source said he's building the space force so he can quid pro quo with aliens. Most quid pro quo in the history of the universe.

Lee, your hourly postings outline your struggle with a Trump presidency. Too many here need to calm down and watch good things happen. The alternative is to pound the keyboard in an attempt to make yourself happy. President Trump is doing fine. Deep breaths.

If Biden was involved in wrongdoing who's job would it have been to investigate it?

So first we find out that Trump strong armed Ukraine to force them to manufacture political dirt on his opponent...and now we find out he was holding back Javelin missiles to help his former campaign chairman , convicted felon Paul Manafort...

I guess the point is he succeeded in getting Ukraine to drop their investigation in to Manafort and discontinue their cooperation with Mueller. So why wouldn't he think he could do the same type of thing, getting them to announce they were investigating the Biden's, after having withheld military aid authorized by Congress for 7 months before he spoke with Zelensky?

    Like I said earlier.

Trump always returns to the well.

He won by attacking Hillary Clinton...so he and his people are using every opportunity to raise the spectre of Clinton now.

He got help from Russia in getting elected...and he's doing THAT as well.again

It is fair to assume, given Trump's previous behavior, that Ukraine is not the only victim of Trump's attempts at extortion. The biggest candidate for such behavior is Israel. Israel's security relies on U.S. aid in no small measure. They would be a ripe target for Trump. South Korea is another candidate. There are many more.

Like I said...Trump has a history of repeating his crimes.

If it works once...he'll do it again

Which is why we can NOT let him get away with anything.

Is there anyone who has not utilized quid pro quo? I use it all the time and damn proud of it. You got to look out for number one. It's about time we had a president who used it, if he did.

Inside Ukraine’s Push to Cultivate Trump From the Start
    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/04/...fdffdaaa11107b72f0f4f6e429cc&regi_id=65145149

WASHINGTON — Long before a telephone call with Ukraine’s president that prompted an impeachment inquiry, President Trump was exchanging political favors with a different Ukrainian leader, who desperately sought American help for his country’s struggle against Russian aggression.

Petro O. Poroshenko, Ukraine’s president until May, waged an elaborate campaign to win over Mr. Trump at a time when advisers had convinced Mr. Trump that Ukraine was a nest of Hillary Clinton supporters.

Mr. Poroshenko’s campaign included trade deals that were politically expedient for Mr. Trump, meetings with Rudolph W. Giuliani, the freezing of potentially damaging criminal cases and attempts to use the former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort as a back channel.
