‘Horrific tragedy’: five dead at Halloween party in California Airbnb rental

Typically, ordinary people with an extra room in their home or something similar (Snowbirds with 2 condos, 1 of which is not used 6 months per year) can use this company to rent it out. Like Ebay, people leave reviews so you tend not to creep out to much staying in someone else's home.

Sounds like a little old lady rented out her room for a small family reunion and a rave showed up.

 

In Atlanta is a was a 4 million dollar mansion.. and hundreds showed up to party.

The person who rented the Airbnb lied.

From the article: "Airbnb told reporters the listing for the house explicitly banned parties, weapons, smoking and marijuana. Michael Wang, the house owner, told the San Francisco Chronicle the woman who rented it claimed she was holding a family reunion for a dozen people. He said he called the police on Thursday “after looking on his home security camera and seeing well over a dozen people at the home”."

They are still victims, even if their own behavior contributed to this tragedy.

 

I used to rent a ramshakled old beach house ever summer.. But as those houses were replaced, you did have to prove to the owners that it was family and friends not some college kids bash up.

 

You act like this is not a fact whereas Federal courts have ruled otherwise. But what exactly is your point?

 

I don't know exactly how the home owner could have made the renter "prove" it was really a family reunion. (And I can already imagine the headlines if he'd given them a hard time "Racism in Airbnb rental process!!" or "Racist Airbnb rental owner harasses minorities youths!!" or some similar mainstream media sensationalized crap. Al Sharpton would be down there stirring up sh*t faster than you could say "racist".)

The homeowner did, however, check on his home security camera, and he did call the police. I'd be curious as to the rest of the story there. Did the police ignore him? Did they check the house but decided it wasn't a problem? Did they drop the ball somehow?

 

You can discriminate if its your property.. If you don't want to rent to college kids or a rave, you don't have to.

 

Perhaps you should move to London. Kind of gun-free, lots of knives and acid though. London looks like it is in the process of permanently outpacing New York in murder rate..... an absolutely unthinkable prospect 20 years ago. Thank god that the progressives in London are furiously outlawing knives because that will surely solve their problem. Also thankfully London is now majority minority and ramping up their diversity immigration, I am confident this prudent step will have massive positive consequences to their murder rate.

This is what I love about the left, their slavish devotion to facts and data. People don't murder people, weapons murder people. We need to outlaw the instruments of murder and the murder will go away. If somebody comes from a society where murder is the norm, they will fit right in and be peaceful...... UNLESS we allow them access to instruments of murder (guns, knives, hammers, screw drivers, etc....). So by all means bring them all in and start the banning, nothing could possibly go wrong, nothing at all.

There was no criminal offense until the shots were fired. The violation of how many people were at the house as "renters" would be a civil offense if it violated a city statute. I can have a party at my home with more than 13 people. The violation of the Airbnb contract would be a civil offense.

So what are you trying to blame police for here?

Interesting. But about 20 years ago, I stayed with my cousin in his, then, $3 million dollar home in a ritzy community (I'd write that I think police can stop and arrest someone with probable cause if they drive through that neighborhood in a Chevrolet.) It is VERY nice. But given the community, surprisingly normal house. A nice house with an out building and in ground pool. I've visited Atlanta too. Very expensive. My point is, while noting it is $4 million and calling it a mansion, it is possible it was a fairly normal house. My cousin's place is not that much different than my $300k house in an ordinary community. I'm betting the lady renting out her home had no idea what was coming. Then again, I want to find some photos!

The house I am speaking of has been on TV several times.. Its a mansion.

 

Dont you know, the cost of progress, those deaths are considered "acceptable" the same ones who want the guns would never DREAM of giving up their cars though the annual death toll is easily 30 + thousand.

 

You really should back up your claims with actual data. New York, one of your safest cities murder rate was significantly higher for 2018 than London, one of the UK's most dangerous cities. But hey, facts don't mean a thing to hockeydad
