    What ever happened to Blaxploitation.
They were profitable films. Maybe not Blackula ;)

Blaxploitation is a term coined in the early 1970s to refer to black action films that were aimed at black audiences. Featuring African-American actors in lead roles and often having anti-establishment plots, the films were frequently condemned for stereotypical characterization and glorification of violence. . . .

Hey, blaxploitation "made" Pam Grier and many other actors/actresses wealthy.
As well as serve as an avenue for "mainstream" productions
    to contract their casting.

I wondered as I noticed MGM channel featuring
    Friday Foster. '75
    Sheba, Baby '75
    Coffy '73

Was, Jackie Brown (1997) the last, dying gasp of blaxploitation?

"The screenplay was also influenced by blaxploitation films, but Tarantino stated that Jackie Brown is not a blaxploitation film. Jackie Brown alludes to Grier's career in many ways."
Sure, right, uh-huh Tarantino, can I sell you a bridge?
It was by any standards a good flick.
    Blaxploitation, Why Not?
    What say @Renee :blowkiss:

Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic,
regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.

    Those movies rock.

Robert Forster just passed away recently.

Its a shame because blaxploitation films weren't negative against blacks, IMO.

Most of them were fun and not too serious.

I'd argue it still a genre, though not as "pure" as it was back in the day-movies like Friday come to mind.

As an aside, I have been watching Nigerian cinema on youtube.

Its actually pretty good, and funny.

Surely there is a 'Movies' thread where this belongs.

Blaxploitation belonged to a particular time & place. Time moved on & the place changed. Same thing has happened to countless movements in art & entertainment and society more broadly. Not it pops up as nostalgia.

Politics is what made it belong to a particular time and place.

I have a strong suspicion that whatever you mean by that has little or nothing to do with the rise & fall of the phenomenon. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Let us be content with the relative lack of impact of Australian cinema.
