Moving to a new country.

Iceland!!! Hey I don't mind the cold and I love to work.

The guns would be fine I could just store them at a club and disable the collectibles.

 

Well I've already lived in a number of countries, and can say that I'm happy to have settled in teh NL. I would like to retire somewhere warmer though, Spain or Portugal perhaps, or Italy or Greece.

 

I want a climate in which I can sit outside.

To eat, and have coffee.

To be able to plan things, and feel like doing them, rather than think, nah, I am not going out in that rain, wind, and so on.

It's horrible. No one feels like going out in that. It is depressing.

On top of which, you then spend a small fortune in fuel bills, just to keep the place warm, so you can sit in, and watch the crap weather outside!

 

Well the cold is what you make of it. Iceland would be cheaper for me as here there are 100º days in the summer and cooling is costly. The summers would be very mild as well as cheap power.

 

I've just always loathed the cold.

Try a night out in Scotland.

Don't bother getting ready, by the time you get to where you want to go, you will be cold, wet, and miserable.

Even our summer is a non event.

 

I'm wearing 2 pairs of socks just now to keep my feet warm. INSIDE....WITH THE HEATING ON

I have just set fire to all my furniture.

With 50 States and a wide array of topographies and demographics to explore...it would take dynamite to get me out of the United States. Europe has it's charm, and exploring it's historical variations could take a lifetime...but I can say with no reservations, these United States' will be my home from birth to death.

All different, in their own little way, or not so little.

I would need to choose one that had..

Good summers, and not too harsh a winter..

But not a place that had too much freak weather, and blew my house away.

Not too red neckish.

Possible to get around city centre on foot, or without need to have car.

People are relatively friendly.

Low crime.

 

not me I'm looking for a place where I can own and carry a machine gun and am free to die of anything I choose without any doctor interfering with my liberty. I'm thinking texas.

 

I've been to Iceland. I liked it & the people were nice.

 

Canada is a great Country, but it has its failings as well. High prices and taxes make it hard to live on a fixed income. The healthcare does not measure up to the American view of it... free care minus prescription, dental and optical... long wait times to see specialists and get surgeries. On the plus side, less crime, most Countries around the World love Canada, people are more laid back here than in the U.S.

My view is based upon living in BC as each Providence operates a little different... like the States.

 

canadians are a bit strange though, theres just something a bit weird about them, no offence like. its like theyd all eat you if they got the chance.

i went with them because i always wanted to be a viking.

 

they only revert to cannibalism in winter....and in Canada, winter is August to June.

 

My wife and I are heading into early retirement in the next four years or so. We have discussed what our retirement plans will be. We intend to spend some time in countries other than Australia in the first few years of retirement. Three countries have been discussed.

1. New Zealand because it's a little closer to home and the culture, language etc quite similar to Australia.

2. Northern Italy around the Lake Como region. Great food, wonderful scenery and an interesting culture.

3. Northern Thailand around Chiang Mai. We get up there a couple of times a year for a get away. Also wonderful food, friendly people and our retirement dollars will go a long way.

Travel is definitely on the cards. Europe is our first choice, especially some of the old Eastern Bloc countries. The Czech republic is a choice. Being of German descent , some time in northern Germany especially for Christmas. Also South America and parts of Asia we haven't seen yet. Turkey is another talked about destination. Really want to see the 'stan countries around the Caspian Sea and the countries around the Black Sea.

We've made no mention of North America.

 

I live in SE Asia. The cost of living is getting more expensive every year.

I'm french. I don't like Paris, it's over populated and effectively the last years was cruel to Paris, thanks to the socialist mayor Anne Hidalgo and all the cultural enrichment. There is a lot of towns in the countryside which are much better.
