Breaking News: Michael Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor and billionaire businessman, is expected to file to be on Alabama’s presidential primary ballot, an adviser said, though he has not yet decided to run

    Most interesting.

    Thoughts?

About as interesting as your nonstop threads about Hillary winning by a landslide and Trump having no chance.

Guess this is a win for you?

    Nah.

I guess Bloomberg doesn't like the current field?

    Outside of that, No1curr. :bored:

    Let me rephrase-

Does this get you as excited as it did when you campaigned and declared Hillary the winner for President?

Or is this just a random "nothing" thread?

One "angle" is that AL has an Early Filing Deadline and IF he decides to run he needs to be on the ballot there.

Also, there is the idea that since Biden looks vulnerable, Bloomberg sees himself as a better alternative to Biden (then Liz, Bernie, or Pete).

My question was "Is he the best you've got".

Reminds me of your Nats going to the White House thread.

    A reach...

interesting, as far as, he's a wall streeter and they already vowed to stop funding if warren is chosen... quite possible that the 'wallstreet' crowd asked bloomie to run, which might force the dnc'ers to comply and ditch biden (he's gonna be a liability shortly after the investigation is over)...

According to Chuck Todd, per tonight's NBC Nightly News, Bloomberg is positioning himself for a big push on Super Tuesday.

Just in case Biden falters and there arises a need for a "Stop Liz Warren" Candidate.:salute:

    Exactly.

And you made the spot-on point in your previous post.

The Dems need a realistic alternative to Liz if Biden falters.

Big Money Wall Street won't take kindly to a Liz Nom.:flagus:

wondering if enough people forgot or no longer care about the controversy of his 3rd term as major... that set off a bunch of people, especially now that cuomo did just the same thing, they'll remember that it was all bloomie's fault for setting that precedent...

then again, ny ec's always go with nyc... but there is a glimmer that he won't carry ny

    edit: mayor not major

    Not a chance.

Biden could actually LOSE ALL of the First 3 (IA, NH, and NV) and still rebound with a Big Win in SC and then steamroll on Super Tuesday.

Totally LMAO at the notion of Biden dropping out if he loses Iowa.:roflol:

the dnc won't, rather can't, allow biden to drop out unless & until there's a better replacement to cover warren... bloomberg didn't announce yet, but he's waiting in the wings, primed and ready to go

here is a story that makes me think Biden is toast

    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/14/blo...sident-if-biden-struggles-against-warren.html

Biden has WAY too much history in politics to withstand the onslaught from trumpeters

and I do agree warren is too damn far left for moderate voters

I think the moderates will be voters that will decide the next election

    Bloomberg is known in NYC

to the rest of the country only knows Bloomberg is a TV channel

yes the trumpters will hit Bloomberg

but he is WAY faster on his feet than Biden and will hit trump hard

i get that, but you need to understand that the democratic party is split/divided with progressives on one side & established moderate/conservatives on the other (libs go either way). ergo if biden dropped out, warren (progressive) would wipe up the dnc floor and the established dems (wall street included) do not want that to happen. why? because if warren is the chosen one on nov 2020, all those wallstreeters will pull their monies back and vote for the republican (whomever that'll be).

the dnc will prop up biden with stephen hawkins' wheel chair and electodes untill someone else comes along (enter bloomberg)...

too bad actually cause i'd love to see tulsi get the nod, debates with her & trump would be classic

Biden leads in Alabama, Biden 36%, Sanders 15, Harris 13%, Warren 9%...

Alabama is one of many states holding their primary on Super Tuesday, 3 Mar 2020. Black voters who make up approximately 50% plus of Alabama's Democratic Primary voters. 54% back in 2016. Biden has been getting 40-45% of the black vote in the polls. That's nationwide, the polls on Alabama didn't break down via the races. Bloomberg couldn't come close to that.

Blacks make up 30-35% of the total Democratic Primary vote nationwide. It's interesting that Biden gets 42% support from them, with blacks giving Warren 17%, Sanders 14%. But among white Democrats, its Warren 30%, Biden 20%, Sanders 13%. Hispanics give Biden 35%, Sanders 21%, Warren 9%. Question 51.

It seems Democratic minorities want Biden, Democratic whites want Warren. At least as of today.

    Exactly.

BUT, if Bloomberg goes All-In (with his money) he could disrupt the "conventional wisdom".

Obviously, if things play out "by the book" (as it seems today).

The first 3 Primaries can't really hurt Biden...

AS LONG AS...Biden Wins SC in a Rout and them Steamrolls through the South on Super Tuesday (and emerges, after Super Tuesday, with the Delegate Lead).

Whether or not Bloomberg can upset that apple cart remains to be seen.

Still, it will be very interesting is Bloomberg is SERIOUS. :salute:

Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas are the southern states holding their primaries on super Tuesday. That is if you still include Virginia as a southern state. Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Colorado, Utah and California round out the Super Tuesday States.

    https://ballotpedia.org/Super_Tuesday_primaries,_2020

Leading up as of today, Warren leads in Iowa, New Hampshire, Biden in Nevada and big in South Carolina, 20 points over Warren. Yes, the black vote throughout the south on Super Tuesday could give Biden a huge lead over all others. This is exactly what happen back in 2016 for Hillary Clinton, it didn't sow it up for her, but she maintained a comfortable lead from that point on.

I really don't see how Bloomberg could do any upsetting of the Apple Cart just by running in Alabama. Even if serious and spending tons of money, I doubt he puts much of a dent in black support for Biden. He very well could hurt both Warren and Sanders though. Drawing some votes away from them. Harris who is currently in third could benefit and finish second there if Bloomberg is serious.

There is also the possibility that Super Tuesday could be the high water mark for Biden. As the democratic primaries move out of the south to the less denser black states.

Had a look at Bloomberg's past record. A tried and true Establishment Wonk who hates the founding principles and has little or no respect for individual liberty (except for things he agree's with)

I give him a thumbs down on this basis.
