Since they have been in business for so long they must have treated most fairly.

Tyson has been in business just as long, and they are notorious for mistreating animals and their contractors.

my friend ended up losing his contract following a dispute where Dean was ordering him to illegally stop letting his cattle, which are marketed as grass fed, graze on pasture, because they could make more money by marketing the cattle as grass red, while feeding them straw. Dean's argumnt was that straw was still grass, but grass-fed is defined as cattle that graze on living grass. My friend could have lost his farm if he was caught mislabeling milk like that, and he refused to do it. Dean's gotten in trouble more than once for mislabeling their products. And most of their farmers, like my friend, don't have the money to pay for a lawsuit. He ended up losing his arm because he couldn't afford to stay open after losing the contract.

At first that seems a little high but then after thinking it thru, its pretty accurate. I'm sure we do 7 gallons of almond milk. so just that alone accounts for it.

Our local super market sells milk at the same price as Walmart. Aldies sells it for less than Walmart.

The public is just not consuming enough milk anymore, cereal is no longer the breakfast of choice for Americas kids.

There is a reason no one manufactures spats any more.

It sure still takes up a LOT of shelf space at the local grocery, but as mentioned earlier, we have a wider range of choices if they want options, choices that really weren't out there when I was growing up, it was cereal, cereal, cereal or pop tarts. Now the frozen food section for breakfast is pretty varied, not that i'm a fan of those options but they are there.

I would think that if our consumption of milk is falling severely especially with children we will wind up seeing a lot more broken bones.

We don't but government subsidized milk. We but milk from the farm up the road. Well, technically according to the government, we don't buy the milk. We share the cow.
The real cost of milk where we live is $10 a gallon. The vast majority of the cost of government milk that is on offer at grocery stores is paid by taxpayers like me, not the purchasers of the "milk".
    Don't cry over corporate welfare.

Dairy farming is highly subsidized as is a lot of agriculture.
