Should Pelosi shut down the hearings to save the party or continue on and risk everything?

Discussion in 'Political Opinions & Beliefs' started by Steve N, Nov 16, 2019.

?

What should Pelosi do?

  1. Shut the hearings down in order to save the party and left Schiff take the fall

    13.3%
  2. Keep the hearings going which will cause her to lose more than just Schiff during the next election

    46.7%
  3. This is going great for Pelosi, why stop it?

    40.0%

Why do you think it is, if Trump was on the up and up, that rather than normal channels, had to slink in through the back door with questionable characters. Including ones who were funneling Russian money into Trump's campaign.

It doesn't matter if Trump is on the up and up. He doesn't hate white people like the Democrats do. Good enough for me.

I couldn't choose any of those. There is too much extra that goes with the question. I think they keep going. Let things play out and see what happens. Trump needs to hold his tongue and quit worrying about an impeachment. Clinton kept going after being impeached and it meant nothing.

I would add a tv show that fails so spectacularly in the ratings that it is cancelled mid first season.

Because "normal channels" are part of the corruption, and major players are trying to keep a lid on what happened in Ukraine starting in 2014.

I think Pelosi, while not improving her stance, might keep it even by continuing the hearings. But she and the Democrats will lose big time if they file actual articles of impeachment with the Senate.

No one cares about the republicans from the dems side. The question in the thread was concerning a potential backfire against the dems. The republican are not going to vote for a dem because trump abused the office to get dirt on what was his main rival. It is the 30% independent centrist voters who will be the swing in the election.
If you want medicare for all, and a more rapid change to renewable energy you vote dem, You want less government and more market responsive government you vote repub. Does not matter the faults of your candidate. Now the battle is for the middle third, are they turned off from a president sending the vice president and his Entrogue to travel for 5 hours to stay in his hotel, Wanting to host the g7 and the press in his hotel, foreign governments and lobbyists selling out his hotel in DC and now this bit with the Ukraine. I can't see how this hurts the dems chances at all in congress.

Now, I am not sure of the the effect on presidential candidates, they seem to be put in the background while the impeachment takes center stage.

Why? Everyone I meet including trump backers understand what he did was wrong, they may differ on if they consider worthy of impeachment. Congress has the responsibility to hold hearings and this is what should have been done in Russia gate and not these czar prosecutors that go off on tangents.

Given the years of excoriation Hillary received for security issues involving her server....................I can't help noticing a lack of outrage over Don's conversation with Sondland, in a public space, using an unsecured cell phone..............able to be tapped by the Russians.

I know of no rational people who believe what Trump did was wrong let alone impeachable. I mean he gave substantial military aid to Ukraine which is more that Obama did -- probably because Obama was too busy watching Russia take over Crimea. Obama did send Russia a nice RESET button though, despite the misspelling.

I don't follow the Russia gate comment. Are you referring to the DOJ currently investigating all of the corruption and illegalities that the culprits did?

Congress has no obligation to hold impeachment hearings. They can if they want to and do if they think they might politically gain from them.

Y’all don’t even have any idea what’s going on do you?
You just make things up on the fly and assert them as truth.

“Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.”

    ARTICLE I, SECTION 3, CLAUSE 7

They could also go as far as to hold a disqualification vote requiring on a simple majority vote to further cement this.

Virtually no one expects the Senate to have the votes to convict, you are correct there.
There are only three Republicans who favor removal with another three indicating possible support. Twelve more are needed.
Republicans as a whole seem to have abandoned the ideals of a democracy.

I love how Trump's supporters are giving Trump's detractors free rein when providing evidence in Trump's impeachment. They are totally incapable of defending Trump. Instead, they fantasize and attack the process, totally ignoring the evidence and Trump's stupidity.

It just keeps getting worse and worse for Trump who is his own worst enemy as shown below.

Republicans said Trump's mid-hearing attack sabotaged their strategy:

    • Republicans recognized going in that she's a highly respected career official, and planned to focus their questions on showing how she had little knowledge of what is being investigated.
    • After the tweet, Republicans went even further out of their way to praise her (even calling her "Your Excellency" at one point) — which just made her abrupt recall to Washington look even more puzzling.

Just how dumb is our President?

Trump's order to retreat in Syria betrayed a key ally who suffered 11,000 casualties in quelling the ISIS terrorist threat. Trump's retreat order facilitated the Turkish invasion of Syria and the attempt by the Turkish dictator, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to annihilate the Kurds who he regards as terrorists.

Trump enabled Erdogan to kill hundreds of Kurds and causing thousands more to abandon their homes, becoming refugees.

While desperate Republicans are trying vainly to defend Trump from his own incriminating statements, guess who Trump invites to the White House.

    Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

"Trump’s mistake in Syria is the unexpected ‘lottery win’ that further strengthened Moscow’s position in the Middle East and undermined America’s prestige as a rational political player and a reliable partner,” raved Mikhail Rostovsky in his article for the Russian newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets.

Kremlin-funded Russian state television has openly sided with Trump in the impeachment inquiry.

The President of the United States committed witness intimation in real time by assailing the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, while she was being questioned by members of the House of Representatives. "Everywhere Marie Yovanovitch went turned bad," Trump wrote.

Another close associate of Trump's is convicted of a felony. Roger Stone, 67, was convicted in federal court of seven felonies for obstructing the congressional inquiry, lying to investigators under oath and trying to block the testimony of a witness whose account would have exposed his lies. Jurors deliberated for a little over seven hours before convicting him on all counts. Together, the charges carry a maximum prison term of 50 years.

Stone joins Trump's campaign manager, Trump's deputy campaign manager, Trump's former NSA, Trump's former personal lawyer, Trump's campaign foreign policy advisor on the list felons who have worked for Trump.

How in the world did this man become our President?

A senior career official at the Office of Management and Budget testified on Saturday about a budget process that went off the rails when nearly $400 million in US military aid to Ukraine was withheld earlier this year by Trump. He said he did not know for sure the reasoning behind the freeze in funds.

Mark Sandy testified on Saturday for a more than five-hour closed-door deposition in the House impeachment inquiry..He spoke about how unusual of a process it was that a political appointee came in, took over the apportionment process and placed a hold on the military aid.

Michael Duffey, the OMB's associate director for national security programs and a Trump political appointee, signed the documents delaying aid to Ukraine. Normally a career budget official signs such documents.

Sandy testified that he raised questions to the OMB general counsel about whether the move violated the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974. He would not discuss what the OMB general counsel said because of concerns it could violate privilege.

You know what happened in the Ukraine. Paul Manafort was employed by pro Russian interests who desired to draw the Ukraine into Russia. He used those connections to bring Russian collusion into the Trump campaign. Trump is still trying to cover his tracks.

I'm all for this clown show to continue. Everyone knows its nothing but hearsay, sometimes so far removed from the source its utterly unbelievable. There doesn't appear to be any plans to put the whistle blower on the stand, so this whole thing is a total disaster. The public won't support impeachment if the whistle blower doesn't testify openly...

Say what??? Overturning a constitutional election of a president is the epitome of abandoning democracy.

How does even a successful impeachment overturn a constitutional election?
You realize that the impeachment process is also constitutional, yes?

Not the process currently happening. The framers were explicit that impeachment was not to be used for political gain, though did not know how to write that into the constitution. This impeachment hearing is just step number 36 of the Democrats effort to overthrow the presidency -- not to mention that it isn't even an official impeachment process. And it certainly wasn't constitutional or even possible when impeachment first got started, a day or two after the election.

How is this occurring for political gain? It is occurring because we have a conman in the White House that is destroying the basic principles of civility and diplomacy.
Yes it an official impeachment process.
What impeachment process started a day or two after the election?

Surely you jest. It is being done solely to get Trump out of office and return political power to the Democrats.
Pelosi says it is not, and it is not being run as an official impeachment.
I detailed this in another post, but for one -- just for you -- :
7 Petitions To Protest Donald Trump Being Your President-Elect
    By Kali Borovic

    Nov 9, 2016

    1. Impeach Trump
Created right after the election, this petition calls to impeach him before he even gets to office. It's racking up the signatures already.

    2. Get Him Out Before He Even Starts
This is another call to impeach Trump. It also holds a lot of names already.

    7. Another Impeachment Attempt
Although this one lags behind the other two, people are still signing.

These petitions sure do make a statement!
