Fox News? More Like Trump’s Impeachment Shield
    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/16/...l?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage

When we encounter a Trumpette on the board who simply will not stipulate to facts in evidence or introduces one of the many batshyte crazy conspiracy theories reverberating around the right wing echo chamber in to the debate..........this sort of thing is probably why.

With Rep. Adam Schiff on the screen, Fox News’s graphic declared in all caps: “TRUMP HAS REPEATEDLY IMPLIED THAT SCHIFF HAS COMMITTED TREASON.”

While Ambassador William Taylor was shown testifying, the Fox News screen graphic declared: “OCT 23: PRESIDENT TRUMP DISMISSED TAYLOR AS A “NEVER TRUMPER.” It also suggested his comments were, “TRIPLE HEARSAY.”

It explains the Fairleigh Dickinson study that found those who regularly watched Faux News actually knew less about both domestic and international issues than those who watched no news at all.

I've touched on this topic on a couple of previous threads. Both in terms of how the rise of right wing media (Faux and talk radio) coincides with the polarization of our politics and how difficult it has become to govern ourselves with such a large, misinformed portion of the population. For example, while we should be rigorously debating the methods by which we will fight climate change we can't get past Repub's denial of the science.

Similarly, the only substantive debate left regarding the Ukraine scandal is whether Don's actions rise to the level of impeachable offenses. Because removing a prez from office is about the most serious action Congress can take.

Instead, the discussion is mired in absurd denials of what we already know to be true based on the testimony of multiple witnesses, specious process complaints, and truly bizarre assertions like referring to the constitutionally sanctioned procedure of impeachment being a coup.
    ...................................................................................................................
To those Trumpette's who choose to reply, I ask you this favor. Please don't reflexively reply with the fake news meme. The author notes he has himself made many mistakes in covering the news as has the NYT. So, this is not about errors that occur by all media sources. It's about things like Faux allowing this comment from regular guest Joe DiGenova........
“There’s no doubt that George Soros controls a very large part of the career Foreign Service at the United States State Department.”..........to go unchallenged. Guests who say preposterous things like that should never be invited back. With Faux, the fact that he says things like that is why they have him on as a guest.

    This link...............https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/5024551-A-Plan-for-Putting-the-GOP-on-the-News.html

..........was provided in the article. Open it and you'll find notes made back during Nixon's days suggesting the GOP use manipulated media segments to defend him. It was essentially the seed of an idea that grew in to what Faux has become.
    ...................................................................................................
How Nixon’s legacy is protecting Trump

Deep down in a cache of documents at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum sits a 15-page memorandum entitled “A Plan For Putting The GOP On TV News.”

The memo, dug up by journalist John Cook in 2011, was written two years before Nixon’s 49-state landslide reelection in 1972. Even five decades ago, Republicans perceived news coverage of their party to be the unfair product of a liberal media corps.

The ideas underpinning the memo fueled massive changes in both media and political strategy during the past half-century. Those changes, in turn, explain why Republicans have reacted with so little alarm to the findings of the Mueller report.

Give us a break.Your irrational hatred of Trump will cause bloodshed. It's on you, so called progressives. Actually, destructive obstructionsts who have done nothing for Americans. Maher is a rare liberal who can see the bigger picture. You are playing a dangerous game.

Under what twisted rubric do you conclude attempting to hold a lawless prez accountable for his actions by way of a constitutional process used by Repubs not so long ago is the fault of Dems? If Repubs decide to resort to violence because the facts leave them defenseless the blame falls on them.

Here is what i dont understand, how is you that you can get away with calling people who support or vote for Trump " trumpettes" etc, and when I posted " dummy crats" It isn't allowed ?

The fact you have a insane hatred of Trump and that is your right and expects us to agree with your insane hatred doesn't make it fact

You do know we have different points of views, you can talk about Climate change all you want, you folks are hypocritical, there are scientist with some serious credentials that disagrees with your so called experts, and parading around an 15 year old girl with autism doesn't make it so

Between Taylor and Schiff , man that is another topic for another day.

That is the difference between us conservatives and you progressives. we listen to what you have to say, analyse it and if makes sense agree, if not disagree and move on, you want to stuff it down our throats with the attitude of take it or leave it and you are always right

And last if you dont like FOX not FAUX news, why do progressives watch it? Im a conservative and I dont watch FOX period.

What you are up against is reality. All you've got is hearsay, which won't be allowed in the Senate because the rules of evidence will apply. You don't have jack ****. Deal with it.

Given the years of excoriation Hillary received for security issues involving her server....................I can't help noticing a lack of outrage over Don's conversation with Sondland, in a public space, using an unsecured cell phone..............able to be tapped by the Russians.

How do you explain the fact that the republicans scored better on the tests than either the democrats or independents?

"Yet if Fox News doesn’t inform citizens, it does sway their votes. Two Stanford scholars, Gregory J. Martin and Ali Yurukoglu, published a paper in American Economic Review in 2017 suggesting that without the network, the Republican share of the vote for president would have been 0.46 percentage points lower in 2000, 3.6 points lower in 2004 and 6.3 percentage points lower in 2008."

You can't deny the fact that the republicans are better informed.

Your whole argument makes no sense. The republicans are better informed, but at the same time they more easily swayed. According to that logic, we should get rid of the education system completely, because we certainly don't want to sway our citizens, by better informing them. .

It would appear that the more logical conclusion is that because republicans are better informed, they can see through the democratic deception and unfair tactics.

I'm sorry, and this is just my observation, nothing against you personally, but anyone claiming to be a "conservative" today have transformed a previously honorable belief into a travesty.

    Conservatives once believed:
    - that Deficits were bad
    - a strong American foreign policy was good
    - That Russia and communist countries were a threat to America and world democracies
    - That America's leadership in the world was critical
    - That America's role in shaping the world after WWII was a brave and noble thing.
    - That aid and allegiance to our allies and NATO was a given
    - That the world was built on strategic interests, not monetary transactions

Today's conservatives believe none of these things or in the things I believe in. We conservatives once believed in service and self sacrifice.

Today's conservatives wake up not knowing what they believe as they await the next Trump tweetstorm. Until Taylor's testimony about the call overheard between Trump and Sondland, they thought security pertaining to communications between US officials that could be hacked by foreign adversaries was bigly important. Now, an unsecure cell phone conversation between the prez and Sondland in a public place speaking about our foreign policy relative to Ukraine's ability to defend itself from Russia, that could be tapped by Russia, is of absolutely no importance.

Why do you think it is that a certain portion of the population have certain "opinions" that no one else shares, "opinions" that don't square with available data. Why is that? Why does FOX News give one version of the news, that differs from all other news outlets, from around the world. News that is often at odds with all available data?

Well Lee, instead of constantly complaining about one little biased news outlet, why don't you focus on all the others news sources like MSNBS, CNN, NYT, ABC, NBC,CBS, PBS, and WaPo, and try and get them to stop constantly supporting everything Trump. All they do day after day is praise Trump and his decisions. You should gather your merry band of anti-Trumpers and boycott those miscreants until they start opposing Trump's antics.
Now that's a putting a better effort forward than just complaining to a few here about how unfair a little news outlet like FOX that only the "deplorable" class watches anyway.

I watch Fox and I would be the first to admit they are biased. However, if you look at the Fox News programs, not the editorials you will get a pretty good balance of the news. Pro Trump and anti Trump along with other news. Look at MSNBC and it is constantly anti-Trump and anti-republican.

I think that your average reporter is on the bright side of the intellectual spectrum as a person of average intelligence would find writing an article quite difficult. I'm quite sure that most, if not all reporters, even those who work for FOX, know what Trump is.

It is the same with network night time talk shows. No one takes Trump seriously any more. In the last election Trump got a lot of free press. In 2020 he isn't going to find a compliant media.

Conservatives and republicans are not the same thing, while there are many conservatives who will vote or support the Republican party, many Republicans are not Conservatives.

Can you name the last Conservative Republican President? and it wasn't Reagan

    You tell me?

Fox news and the majority of MSM dont report news, they are propaganda machines, Gone are the days of Walter Kronkite, Mike Wallace even though he was a liberal and a Democrat actually reported the news minus their bias.

Today you have left wing and right wing news outlets reporting their agenda not stories, they dont even pretend to be unbiased
