For those of us old enough to remember, there was a toy rocket. It was propelled by water. What you would do is fill the body of the rocket part-way with water, then attach it to a pump. You then pumped air into it. When released, the compressed air forced the water out and the resultant thrust launched the rocket toward the heavens.

The H-53 helicopters had a small turbine engine to provide ground power independent of any external unit. If I remember correctly, it put out 110 horsepower. It was started with a hydraulic motor.

The hydraulic starter was driven by a unit called an accumulator. The accumulator was a cylinder with an internal, floating piston. The cylinder was pre-charged to 1500psi with nitrogen, then hydraulic fluid would get pumped into the other side of the piston. The piston moved until 3000psi was reached.

So yeah, one day we went to fire up that little engine and the accumulator's mount failed. It travelled about 150 yards.

I never could, and still can't drink beer. My record is 1 1/2 cans of Rolling Rock before my body violently rejected it. I've had real German beer, in Germany, also. It made no difference. I can't drink the stuff.

    I do like the stein.

    Too much.

I haven't tried everything, but I can't drink most red wines, either. Second tier chiantis are good.

I don't like most chardonnay, unless they aren't oaked. Otherwise, I'm attracted to the dry white wines.

Beyond that, I like whiskey. But, I can drink most any of the hard spirits. I just could never stomach beer.

I can't do it. Beer makes me puke. That's just how it is.

Haha, we are opposites when it comes to drinking. I like a nice red wine with dinner, like a Cabernet Sauvignon. And I enjoy beers - craft ales and such. And I don't care too much for hard liquor. I've had it of course. I can stand it, ya know. But I don't especially like it. The only time I ever have it is when I'm with someone who likes it and they pour me one.

    Third time's a charm?

But then again : doing the same thing time and again, and expecting different results, is the definition of insanity.

I'm torn. Or maybe not. That line for insanity is awfully smudged....

And the resurrection of the software begins... or did yesterday. And the decision is a hybrid system, as a temporary fix, with a possibility of extensions until better software is found.

Every time someone says 'crash', I have to take a drink.

Happy Thanksgiving. Safe travels to all who are on the road this week. Looks like it’s going to be rough going for much of the nation. Am I the only one who finds steering in the direction of the skid to be counterintuitive? The good news is that this guidance is outdated.

Steering in the direction of the skid if instinctual, for me. Has that changed because of anti-skid systems?

Those turkeys have better accommodations than I do.

That was the rule for rear wheel drive cars. The current recommended technique is to take your foot off of the gas pedal and steer in the direction you want to go. The best bet is to stay home when the roads are icy.

Further proof as to why one shouldn't give this reply a " likes ".
I mean, the poster basically pled that his body violently couldn't.
So why would another poster use their brain to assume a " likes ".
Boggles the mind more than too many suds { brewski }.
