http://www.uawire.org/Contents/Item/Display/25465 No real surprise here....Pantsirs, S400s, seem to be for show, unless the missile crews forget to turn on, or drunk on the job. Israelis will do what they need to do, and the Russkis will do nothing.
Cruise missiles are pretty good offensive weapons, the delilah cruise missile has not seen much real combat action and from reading about it sounds like a good modern one. It can maneuver and loiter until a target is selected by the pilot at the last second. (EDIT: The article also states the missile itself has jamming capabilities.) It reads from the article that they had a 25% success rate in downing the missiles, so its not useless, but not perfect either. Honestly we dont really have a lot of real world data in combat situations of modern 1st world cruise missiles against AA and success rates outside of internal controlled tests. Remember the Iron Dome is hardly perfect against Hamas garbage missiles, and someone got past patriots in Saudi Arabia with some form of missiles along with drones. Does anyone know of other modern cruise missiles that have been shot down in combat(Real Question)? Hard to find data.
It certainly sounds like that. I thought they were using S300 not S400. I have read that S400 is as good or better than anything the US has....However if Israel is now getting so crazy that it has decided to challenge Russia, it has truly gone berserk. Russia's initial response as I quoted on another thread would appear to be that the attack itself was a 'wrong move'
Last time I checked, it was just last year that the Syrians/Russians shot down an Israeli aircraft. I doubt they all managed to fix this within a year.
I actually think both can be true. From those I have spoken with, SAM's are much less reliable than people think. Someone above posted a 25% "hit rate" and that actually may be one of the best in the world. Not sure, just adding my 0.02
In Vietnam i know America pilots often dodged lots of sams, usually fired in pairs. The biggest danger was the manuvering done to avoid them would often bleed off all their gas, speed and altitude making them easier targets for AAA guns Since then advances have been made both in missile and tracking and in pilot training and counter measures. Both Gulf wars showed us that pilot training snd countermeasures has greatly outstripped technology. Now pilots have both training and technology and countermeasures. Air defences have bery little effectiveness anymore. It's still a high level concern for pilots but not one they aren't equipped to deal with.
