Guns are not banned in the UK. Why do people insist on saying this? There are at least 3 guns on the farm where I live.
Handguns were banned but only a very small number of people owned handguns before the ban and most of them were restricted to use at gun ranges and were not allowed to be taken home.
British people never armed themselves with guns for self-defense in public places.

The terrorist was imprisoned and released during a Conservative government's reign.
I recommend you spend a little time on research before you make stupid statements in future.
Imprisoned in 2012 and released in 2018. The last Labour government ended in 2010 when David Cameron was made PM.

They are highly restricted (and confined largely to clubs and farms) so its a defacto ban.

And yes-guns historically were quite popular there. I was just reading up on early colt revolvers and the UK market was actually several times larger back in the day.

Violent crime was always lower in the UK vs the US-both before and after the series of defacto bans in the UK.

To cite the violent crime rate in the UK and to imply its lower because of gun controls isn't credible.

British "conservatives" aren't real conservatives. Certainly not by American standards.

Guns have been largely restricted to farms and ranges since 1920 and the right to use firearms for self-defense was removed in 1937.
If you want to go back 100 years to make some point about UK citizens being disarmed go ahead but it won't make you look any less daft.

I don't need you to regurgitate what I have already linked to.

And then there was the 12 ft lb air rifle laws, etc.

Pretty soon they will pass a Narwhal horn ban-citing this incident.

Neither guns nor knives are banned in the UK.
There are severe restrictions though which have been in place for nearly a century in the case of guns. This is why violent crimes have always been lower in the UK.
Thankfully the terrorist today was not able to arm himself with a firearm or the death count would likely have been much higher.

There's that fake news again. Violent crime was lower there before and after any ban.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate_by_decade

Those terrorists have proven they know how to use bombs and vehicles as well so don't get too complacent.

    What ban?
America has had a higher rate of gun ownership and a higher rate of homicide since the first serious restrictions in the UK.
To deny that higher rate has anything to do with how easy it is to acquire guns in the US compared to the UK is deluded. In the 1900's the rates were broadly the same but from the 20's onwards it has been much higher in the US while remaining low in the UK.

You can have any air rifle you like in the UK but over the legal power limit, you will need the relevant license.
This means complying with certain regulations for storage and use etc.

Very sensible if you ask me.
I have an air rifle which requires no license and it is perfectly adequate for my needs (rodent control).

Is an air rifle adequate in killing them or only scaring them off? You don't live in Sumatra, that's for sure.

For rats and mice it is perfectly adequate for killing them so long as the correct pointed pellets are used.

Yes, it's a farm. The barns and sheds are full of them.
There are a lot of owls though and they help with the mice and young rats.
The dogs get their fair share too.

Jesus! Owls and dogs and you still need a gun. What about cats they're supposed to be better at catching rodents, aren't they?
