I don't think so as I have seen far worse. This would have ended some posts ago if you took up my suggestion to make a simple check with Google.

Well, Charles has Camilla, and if anyone is powerful and shrewd enough to protect him from Meghan's cons, it's her.

UK should cut all of them off and spend the money on something useful.

I tend to agree with you... if they don't have any particular 'power', and are mostly figureheads, the amount of money they spend each year on pageantry could be doing some good for the citizens. But, not being a citizen of the UK, there maybe more to the Royals than meets my eyes.

It is neither just a title or semantics to say that there is no longer a British Empire. There are important and major differences between the remaining overseas locations that were once a part of the Empire, how they operated in the past and how they operate today. Along with the laws that broke the ties and bonds of Empire to provide independence in varying degrees, largely upon the democratic vote of the local population. There is a thousand year history behind all this, making it all much too complex to type up here. For anyone who honestly wants to learn about it, here's one place to begin:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Empire

To understand the differences between the terms "England", "Great Britain", "United Kingdom", "The Commonwealth Realm", "Commonwealth Dependencies", "British Overseas Territories", "British Isles", "The Crown" and "British Empire", here's a quick explanation with simple charts:

Nothing that is a thousand years old and spans the globe can be boiled down in a few simple sentences. Takes some reading.

As for the monarchy, don't much care but as it is unavoidable to be aware of the news about it:
    1. Prince Andrew is very likely guilty of Statutory Rape. Not a good option for assuming the throne.
    2. Prince Charles is indeed a "Cad", for his loathsome treatment of his former and tragically deceased wife Diana. He does not deserve to take the Crown, but he likely will. With any luck his hold of the thing will be brief.
    3. Prince William and his wife appear to be good, decent, normal people born into unique circumstance. The best option to succeed the Queen. Hopefully this will happen sooner rather than later.

Wasn’t GHWB a pilot in WW II? His plane was shot down in battle.

    He was a great man.

Head of a Kingdom = King or Queen
Head of an Empire = Emperor or Empress
The clue is in Her Majesty's title.

ps, unnamed sources are worth next to nothing.

UK, for all practical purposes is a republic. The royal family has no power, and they are primarily a tourist attraction.

Yes, but Bush the Elder was five Presidents ago and I was saying four. I do count the current idiot, much though I would prefer not to.

Scroll back up to my post with the YouTube video. Watch it several times.

President Bush was promoted in the Air Force. Both were in fact.

I believe the cost of her to England far surpasses this countries cost to employ Trump for a full 8 years.

Since you mentioned the Japanese monarchy, I was once seated next to a person who served in the Pacific in WWII. He was only an enlisted man, but MacArthur needed a lawyer for the trials in Japan, so they recruited him.

President Truman gave orders that Hirohito must be found innocent even though the lawyer told me that he was guilty as hell. He also said that if the newspapers got whiff of it, he would have to take the fall for Truman.

Yes, which is why I said four Presidents, not five. George HW Bush was five Presidents ago and he served honorably. But not in the Air Force, which did not exist until 1947.

If you are counting George W Bush, his military record is embarrassing and nothing to be bragged about. No wartime service, a near deserter who's family used influence to protect their wayward playboy offspring.

True or untrue, so what? Not our country, not important to our taxpayers. Also comparing a multiple-decade monarchy to the brief resident of the White House on cost grounds is a nonsensical comparison. Vastly different time spans and job descriptions, they are not comparable.

We should have dissolved the Japanese monarchy and executed Hirohito and a half dozen other members of the royal family publicly, requiring all Japanese adults to view the film. The man, his cousins and uncles oversaw great evil crimes, enormous mass murders. They deserved to die and see their monarchy reduced to a page in the history books.

Australia wanted war crimes charges and trials of the imperial family. But MacArthur and others saw politically expedient reasons to preserve the monarchy and Hirohito. This was supported by Truman. To this day the end result is that Japan continues to live in official denial of the extent of vast and terrible crimes against humanity committed with the full knowledge, support, the planning and the direct orders of Hirohito and various supporters in his family.

A respectable age to retire from any job for sure, but...

    Nah... don't think so.

The UK has been a republic before no reason why they can't again.

It was a resounding failure last time though. I don't think anyone would want to replace a constitutional monarchy with a military dictatorship again.
