I know a little bit about Russia’s electronics industry and let me tell you - Obama’ era sanctions on Russia were G*d sent. Within several years, Russia spent gazillions of dollars modernizing its manufacturing base and is now producing locally much of what it used to acquire overseas. Many former Western exporters lost its customers in Russia.

Want an example you can relate to and easily research? During sanctions, Visa with great fanfare announced pullout of Russia. Within a year, russkies have developed their own infrastructure creating payment processing center and credit card system Mir, which works just fine. And upon return to Russia, Visa found out they lost about half of their business.

    See how it works?

See what what works?? Spent "gazillions"?? From where.....? And many younger Russkis are looking to strike their fortunes elsewhere.

    See my thread about that.

You know a "little" about their "electronics" industry, or anything else...when I see something in-store shelves......I just might be inclined to believe.

The safest russia is a developed Russia. Prosperous . The neoliberal rape of Russia by western predatory capitalists is over They tried to take her to the cleaners. Putin has worked to reverse that.

I am pulling for Russia and her people. That makes for a safer better Russia This is what intelligent people want.

You point is valid, maybe more valid than you know. But here's the problem -
you have to do something when Russia offends with its drug cheats, cyber
attacks, assassinations, espionage, invasions, shooting down planes etc..
    The other option is war.

United States made Russia rich by promoting globalization, (taking money from Americans and handed them to China, Russia, Brazil, India etc) thank you America.
People who are thinking that sanctions against Russia has any effect probably do not realize how misguided they are.
Any war with Russia will be lost immediately.

All probably true. I suggest the biggest sanction against Russia is the one slowly underway by
accident - weaning ourselves off oil.
It's said that the Arabs have oil and religion, and tomorrow - no oil. Something like this could
happen to Russia. For a dictatorship like Putin's war is the only remaining option.

So what is your problem with Russia? I suppose you've been exposed to the fake news propaganda for decades like I was. I decided to get a visa and find out for myself first hand. To be perfectly honest, I'd trade every liberal in the country for average Russian citizens. They are predominately conservative, aren't usually PC, are patriotic and pretty damn decent people.

I'd guess @Dutch agrees with my observations.

But yet we constantly hear this Russia Russia Russia bullshit but the friggin Chinese commies are A-okay. It's like bizarro world. Somehow Russia was our ally in both World Wars and without them Hitler would have taken over Europe. Period. Now we're supposedly allies with Germany (cough) and Japan. Vietnam? Yeah, we're friends with those ex-commies now after we got what out of that shithole?

But Russia is still bad? :bored:

Wasn't fake news for decades.....they were the enemy back then, still are.

Russia wasn't really an ally in WW2.....we just agreed to fight Germany together....after that all bets off. Lucky for the Russkis we provided massive aid. A mistake afaic.

Why would you need a Visa.....you probably live there....didn't you claim to know where every exotic car dealer was located in Moscow?

Sorry, i grew up in the 80s as far as i am concerned the Russian government still wants to nuke us and take over the planet.

I don't wish them I'll i just don't want them as a powerful nation. All their military hardware is horrible nasty and ugly. because it was designed to kill Americans.

Maybe my generation just needs to die out but they are still Soviets to me..

Yeah and I grew up the same time as you did as I suspected. I know exactly where you are coming from but hate to break reality to you but you've been lied to for most of your life. Russia is not what you think it is.

I bet you don't know that there are just as many Russians living in Israel percentage-wise as blacks here in the States. Let that sink in. But we're still sending tons of aid to Israel. I bet you didn't know that if you go to any decent restaurant in Western Europe the menu with be in three languages....local, English, and Russian. Why? Because in Europe Russians are just as common as Americans/English speakers.

But the Euro-trash countries...like France, Germany etc......still claim Russia is the boogie man because if they didn't, our dumbasses would quit sending billions in foreign aid. It's a scam. Every European country that points to Russia as the reason for U.S. taxpayers to foot their bills is scamming us. They tell us Russia is their arch enemy but they freely trade with them and open their arms to Russian tourists. They take Russian money and our money and laugh. The NATO countries are the food stamp countries of the world.

Russia is more Westernized/Americanized than a lot of the NATO countries. I've been to shopping centers in Russia and had to look for signage in Russian because everything was in English. If I told you I went by Krispy Kreme in the morning, Burger King for lunch, and Papa John's for dinner and had Baskin Robbins in between you'd think I was in the States. You can get the same junk in Russia. Why? Because Russia is open for business. It's very capitalistic now. No different than here.

If Russia didn't have natural resources and Nukes, they'd be our best friends. But that perceived threat is used by our dirty ass crooked politicians to line their own pockets/keep themselves in office as long as possible.

So I ask the question again. Why the hell as we building China from the ground up when those commies are more of a threat than Russia but Russia is the boogie man.....capitalism/westernized and all? It's because we're dumb.

Russia is the only country in this world that still attacks and annexes the territories of its neighbors. As long as Russia continues to do something like that it won’t be taken seriously.

I agree with you on many points. Especially in regards to Europe and China.

I have no issues with the Russian people.
I don't care much about them. I tried to read war and peace but i couldn't get into it. I just don't care that much about about the Russian people.

Anyway i just don't like the Russian government. I was hopeful under Gorbachev but that didn't last long.

Whatever. :bored: The Ukies started discriminating against the ethnic Russians after the Western led coup in 2014 and the Crimeans voted to secede, just like they did in 1991. The only difference this time was they voted to join Russia, just as they were from the 1700's to 1954 (technically never was part of Ukraine because the 'gift' wasn't legal). Back in the '90's when they voted it was all good until Ukraine decided to annex Crimea back by force.

Has Russia annexed South Ossetia, Transnistria, Abkhazia, The Donetsk People's Republic, The Luhansk People's Republic??

Good luck selling that bullshit. Could Russia take all of these territories? Absolutely. But they won't and never will. They don't need the headache.

No need to sell anything. Everyone sees it the way it is - Russia forcefully annexing territories in 21st century. Which makes it a backwards, 19th century, empire-wannabe. You can rationalize anything you want - it’s not how things are done by civilized countries in this century.

    You are regurgitating Russian propaganda.
Nobody discriminated anyone. Go watch street interviews on Ukrainian TV - lots of Russian speakers and they are not afraid to speak any language they want.

"wannabe", until they forcefully are able to defend their territories. Might makes right in the world of militaristic power. We can talk all we want about our beloved "humanitarian warfare", but it is our force that enables it to be humanitarian.

Entering a war in favor of those colonies and small states will not ultimately in of itself sanctify their existence(IE: Total victory over Russia will either be a daunting task or a price way too high to pay.) Obama understood that when he reconsidered Syria.

The Arab Spring should highlight the weakness that a country has outside of its sphere of influence.
