He gave farmers billions because their fields where flooded for the first half of the year and they couldn’t plant.
Just like we give Floridians billions every year when a hurricane hits

consider adding some green beans in next time, with our family chili recipe green beans have been a part for 20+ yrs since way back when mom was on some weird diet and replaced kidney with green, but now we include all of them (green, white, light red) and its quite delicious, I know it sounds weird (and looks weird too) but it adds a certain dynamic that just 'works'.

Oh, you are saying things happen that affect people's livelihoods that are outside of their control? Like job loss after a recession, for example? Who knew!! Yet, you are totally okay for making the farmers whole for their lost production, but people who lose their jobs because of company layoffs are lazy moochers, according to the RW, who need to be taught a lesson so they better themselves instead of relying on the tax payer for a bail out.

Why didn't those farmers have flood insurance for their crops? Why didn't the free market take care of the situation? What about charity trough donations?

Note, I have no problems that some of my tax dollars go to these farmers in need. I DO have a problem with conservatives selectively appropriating government assistance to what they think are their voters, while villifying others who need a helping hand.

Yep, the savings are minuscule compared with the foregone revenue as a result of Trump's tax cuts.

And if you do the math, that 5.5 billion over 5 years = 1.1 billion per year. Apply that to the 700,000 people who will lose this, and it amounts to just under $1600 per year each. Or about $30 per week.
For people who are struggling, that will make a huge difference.

Cool. So we agree that subsidies are common and bad. You just were getting your facts on methods and aims from a past century.

lol - It doesn't take affect until some time in April of next year.

Time to get able bodied people off of gov't assistance anyway. It's a win for working Americans.

About time after the Obama administration removed rules and liberalized the work rule requirements. What did we get, a huge increase and sustained higher levels. Tightening rules during the Gingrich/Kasich congress worked to get able bodied persons back into the workforce as taxpayers rather than remaining government expenses.

You have not informed yourself as to the bill, does not apply to persons over 50.

"The work requirement covers “able-bodied” recipients. A U.S. Department of Agriculture spokeswoman said it doesn’t apply to recipients who are over 50, disabled or pregnant, or anyone with a child under 18." Maybe you have forgotten most of those persons worked all their lives to provide for themselves and object to able bodied persons of working age collecting their taxpayer dollars in order to not work.

    Great!

Get a job so you can afford it stop being a taxpayer expense. Why are able bodied persons between 18 - 50 the ones who can least afford it?

Some folks think single able bodied people between 18 and 49 should not have to work.

A lot of jobs pay a pittance, especially in heavily Republican districts. People regularly work two or three jobs to get by.

in addition, it might also sound weird but I put in a half can (about 7oz) of diced up stewed tomatoes too, which many people think is even weirder than the green beans but it does something positive to the overall flavor profile. I'm no chili expert by any stretch but I do know that Ihad to buy a bigger pot because when I announce that i'm making it that all of my extended family puts in orders for a large tupperware full, and I can't tell you how many times i've been asked "whats in this?, its so much better than mine" and it literally takes me like 20 minutes to make up a huge batch. I take more pride in my spaghetti sauce than my chili and the dam red sauce takes me hours, but when I'm making that I don't get advance orders for it, only that dam chili.

anyway, just so I don't get accused of derailing, its so dam cheap, I'm guessing its about $1 per serving at the most, the only thing more cost effective that I can think of is pb&j or Ramen.
