Sure don't look at data, look at anecdotes. Meanwhile in the real world, we like to work with data. See that Green Line? It is higher than the Blue line. Do you understand the significance of that?

As I suspected jobless claims took a 49,000 jump upwards this week as 252,000 filed for unemployment compensation last week.

So what vast leftist conspiracy are you trying to peddle? Not seeing where you are going, or did you run out of things to whine about Trump?

Every year in November businesses gear up for Christmas. The greatest job increases are in warehouse and package handling jobs. Half of the job increases come from companies like the Post Office, UPS, and Amazon. They all disappear in January.

The job numbers that the BLS reports are seasonally adjusted. They already account for seasonal trends in hiring.

This is just another example of the incompetence of Bush, the greatness of Obama, and the dishonesty of Trump. Follow the graph and see how many jobs were lost as Bush's economic collapse caused many companies to go under. Then as Obama took control and righted the economy, the unemployed rate, just like all other economic indicators consistently improved, continuing mostly unabated into Trump's presidency. If one looks closely, Trump really hasn't accomplished anything beyond exploding the debt.

Uh, I think what he is trying to say is today there are more jobs available than people who could fill them, which has never existed before in the past... Ever...

That number increased significantly during the Obama administration after remaining steady for several decades.

Why are you so concerned about people who do not wish to work?

Again conservative rhetoric that doesn't quite square with reality. That misinformation problem you keep defending. The massive job losses occurred as some 64,000 companies went under during Bush's presidency. Once Obama gained control of the levers of power, the economy began to right itself, and has continued mostly u abated ever since. Or as Obama put it, the Republicans had driven the bus off the road. Obama righted the bus and drove us back to prosperity.

Many people don't ever get a real job until after college at 22 or so.

It depends on my they choose not to work. The labor participation rate has gone up for those over 55, but down for those under 55. Those under 55 should be the most productive. They are most likely living off of welfare or living with other family members or friends.

The reality is that they left the labor force, but never came back even after jobs became available. They not only are not working, they are not even looking for work.

We have far better work perks for those who work in any level of government work than are now offered by the private sector. The exact opposite of what used to exist prior to 1980.

I don't know which forms of welfare you're talking about but for food stamps and unemployment benefits, one needs to be activity looking for work or working to qualify. This would mean they are part of the labor market, which would mean they wouldn't be counted in that 95 million figure.

As for living with other family members or friends, so what? If you're not actively engaged in the labor force, you're not going to be counted as part of the labor force. This includes a number of people: students, homemakers, retired, immigrants, etc.

However, the numbers in those groups have gone down significantly and have only gone back up slightly. It began to drop precipitously during the Obama administration and dropped about three and a half percent.

I don't know what numbers you're referring to. We don't have data on the makeup of the individuals who are not part of the labor force. We only have their relationship to the labor market (e.g. Man, Not in Labor Force and Want a Job Now, or Woman, Not in Labor Force and Disabled). For the most part, the amount of people not in the labor force has gone down because there were so many discouraged workers during the recovery period of the economy who are now finding work.

However, this only accounts for about 5 million people. The vast majority of people who are not in the labor market do not want a job and are not interested in finding one.

There are approximately 243 million people in the US who are sixteen and over. Three and a half percent of those left the labor force during the Obama administration. That is 8.5 million people who quit working and quit looking for work. There has not been a substantial increase in students or any other group which would normally not work.

For whatever reason, these people are no longer working and apparently have little to no interest in working. I know a few of them. They look for reasons not to work. The don't like the boss or their fellow workers or whatever excuse they can come up with. I am sure many have very ligitimate reasons for not working. But far too many do not.

I had a post regarding one of our nations ten largest trucking companies closing its doors declaring bankruptcy on Monday of this week laying off well over 3,000 truckers.I have since learned that in the first 3 quarters of this year over 800 of our nations trucking companies have closed up shop and gone out of business, this strikes me as very odd in a supposedly booming economy???Something just doesn't seem to line up here??

There is a shortage of truck drivers. So apparently, truckers can get jobs, if they want them.

Whatever the excuse is is irrelevant. We generally only care about unemployment of the cyclical nature. Someone who doesn't need or want to work is not considered unemployed.
