It sounds like we agree. I live in Los Angeles and our minimum wage is $15.00 Jan 1. The 2 parking attendants in my building have already been replace by pay stations. I went into McDonalds for a coffee and had to use a touch screen to order. The supermarket has individual hand scanners I take into the store and I scan each item when I put it in the card. My credit card is already on file, so I just click "checkout" and never have to wait in line for a human. Is this helping the workers?
Im not complaining. Even if a human worker cannot be replaced by a machine, the additional pay would just be eaten up by higher prices. The only one who gets a raise is the government!
When the government shows up to help, we know what comes next. When I was a kid, I worked in a bike shop for less than minimum wage. I learned to repair bikes and how to weld/braze. Today, that shop owner would be considered a criminal.
