Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN) affirmed on Saturday that he’s likely to vote against impeaching President Donald Trump. During a local event in Litchfield, Minnesota, Peterson said he wouldn’t join his fellow House Democrats in the impeachment vote this week “unless they come up with something between now and Wednesday.”

“Maybe something will change,” he said, according to MPR News and the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “I doubt it.”

Another House Dem coming out against impeachment.

I agree with him that there is no evidence Trump did anything wrong.

Once again we see that the only bipartisan support is AGAINST impeachment-when will top dems learn?

The funny thing is Schumer calling for more witnesses in a Senate Trial. But if the House indictment(AKA: Impeachment) were sound, you wouldn't need more witnesses. The Democratic complaint for these witnesses, is bemoaning the lack of evidence pointed out.

But what they don't want to consider(but should start considering) is that these extra witnesses do not have more evidence. Or if they do, the chance is very real that they could give evidence that would lend to an 'exoneration' of the President.

    So what?

Everyone has Known FOREVER that there would be a handful of "strategic defectiins" from the Dems.

BUT, everyone has Also Known FOREVER that the "defectors" won"t number enough to stop the impeachment.

Indeed. And why would anyone trust what Schumer is "calling for" when we have already seen the scam.

I wouldn't say he did nothing wrong, but o don't believe anything he did warrants impeachment.

    A censure maybe.

What do you believe Trump did that is worthy of censure?

That's fair, but to go back on impeachment to 'censure' feels intellectually dishonest to me. It's openly saying 'The votes aren't there to impeach him, so let's censure him instead!' When that was never the argument. If a censure option were brought out, with these democratic accusations before we had gotten into the nitty gritty of the details(IE: Lack of physical evidence), I would have been right there with you.

But now, censure feels like a gesture(and well, they turned impeachment into a gesture.) This isn't a gesture to suggest 'abuse of power' is unacceptable(since the abuse really isn't quantified.), no, this is more of a gesture of 'We're doing it because we can.'

Well, as a voter I'll vote Republican as my response to the House Speaker's suggestion of 'doing it because we can.'

    :roflol:

So you think he is voting "no" because there is not enough evidence!

    Oh, my aching sides.

He is voting "no" to protect himself in a district that Trump won.

There is political cowardice on both sides of the aisle...not just for the Republican senators who will acquit because of political cowardice.

So, how much of this is kabuki?

It could be that the Dems see this getting to the Senate as a bad bad thing for them, which it will be, so internally they are urging enough of those Dems who are at risk to flip in order to not pass the vote.

This would keep the appearance of moving on promised impeachment for those in heavily dem districts, while the at-risk Dems can take a principaled stand, while killing this before the Senate gets it.

    Nice dream.

Never has a American so richly deserved impeachment...and Trump is going to be impeached. Period.

You are correct, though, that the move will have a political cost for the Democrats, particularly for Democrats from Trump favoring districts. But most of the Democrats have the guts and character to accept those costs...because they see defending the Constitution as more important than pissing on it in order to aid their re-election chances.

Trump almost certainly will be acquitted in the Senate. There's not enough spine or character in the Republican element there to present any danger to Trump.

So... what you are saying is the dems have wasted there time, now look like a do nothing party, and Trump will get re-elected in 2020. Good news!

No wasting of time here at all.

At least attempting to protect the Constitution from disgusting boors like Trump.

Impeachment was warranted. Glad they had the guts to do it.

Citation needed about everyone knowing forever about these strategic "defectiins" happening.

(I know, everyone, I know. He never backs up his claims. But it's always fun to demonstrate it.)

Unless you're trying to say the Dems are strategically defective? I mean, I can get behind that.

Congressional reps have to express the will of their constituents. Democrats in a red district have a Sisyphean task: Party unity vs voter backlash. Only two Democrats in the HoR voted against the inquiry. That’s very telling, because one could have supported the inquiry but ultimately voted against AOI. For all intended purposes Rep Peterson will be labelled a DINO....

Likely we will see quite a few Dems in Trump states evaluate the fact that the senate will not convict Trump no matter what and vote accordingly for re-election....that is what politicians do. Expecting honesty or ethical actions is naïve.

I agree...he is a rat. Going over to join with others of his species, it looks.

But by the end of this week...Trump WILL have been impeached.

His approach to Ukraine was unusual possibly improper, if the Senate finds it to be so thrn a censure would be in order.
However i don't think impeachment will make it through the house.
