    FULL TITLE (long one) -
John Bolton said Trump was never serious about stopping North Korea from building nuclear weapons, as the time for Kim Jong Un's ominous 'Christmas gift' approaches

    SNIP
Bolton said that if Trump and his officials were serious about stopping North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's ambitions to expand its nuclear weapons program "it would be pursuing a different course."

"The idea that we are somehow exerting maximum pressure on North Korea is just unfortunately not true," Bolton said

He went on to describe Trump's pledges to stop North Korea obtaining a nuclear weapon that could hit the US or its allies as a mere "rhetorical policy."
    ENDSNIP

    https://www.businessinsider.com/bolton-says-trumps-north-korea-strategy-was-never-serious-2019-12

Hysterical that ****ing Axios can get an interview with Bolton and the US Senate refuses to.

Don't forget people - "There is no longer a Nuclear threat from North Korea"

I hope Kim doesn't send us the promised "Christmas gift", but I couldn't blame him either, having to deal with this lightweight world leader (figuratively)

Thoughts? How will Trump respond to Bolton? Please anger him, Donnie.... that's my recommended path..

True and I have said it before. This was never about China’s puppet, NK, but about China. Trump played China’s game and fooled them.

No president has ever been serious about stopping NK, especially Clinton who actively assisted their efforts.

As a leader and deal maker, Trump is quite incompetent. What he excels at is self promotion. Has it not been obvious, all along, that Trump had no plan with beyond a photo opportunity. Just like with what he got impeached over. He didn't want an investigation, just the public announcement of one. He just wanted something he could use in his self promotion.

Yet when you see Trump deal with friendly leaders, he tends to pale, in comparison, as if he is in over his head.

Really? And what specifically did Clinton do that "assisted their efforts?" Where is your evidence this happened? What is the source of this revelation?

The darn fool is playing with national security for his own ego, and his supporters are following him into the abyss. Bolton is most certainly a hawk, and his statement is yet another example of Trump's utter incompetence on foreign affairs.

To Trump its all about image. Cancel the old deal, declare a deal, and then boast at rallies filled with idiots who paid no attention to what was in either the old or new deal. That applause and chants of adoration in front of cameras sear the lie into the Trump mythology.

I wonder what North Korea's plans are to stop the US building more nuclear weapons, or is it just a one sided argument, and only the US can be trusted with such weapons?

Trump played China’s game of propaganda. He was told his effusive praise of China and NK would not play well and of course the haters proved that right. Trump played for time and China was fooled into thinking Trumps overtures to NK would ease tensions so NK was instructed to play along. What China didn’t realize is that the tariffs were the game all along. Trump has worked with American companies to move their sourcing out of China to thwart their Belt and Road policy and both are working. China’s exports have dropped 25% and its economy is suffering and now its making concessions. China realized too late what Trump was doing and why you now see NK back to its old threats.

    Interesting theory.

    A couple of questions:

    1) Why the need to play for time?

    2)
    - FDI in China actually expanded by 3% since the Tariff war started
    https://www.piie.com/blogs/china-economic-watch/are-foreign-companies-really-leaving-china-droves
    - of the 13% of companies surveyed who are leaving China, only 3% say they will re-locate back to the US.
    https://www.axios.com/us-companies-...ays-bf443362-03fd-4292-ba79-223fc79fe2b2.html

    ----

So with these facts in mind - Plus the growing affects to the US Economy thanks to China's stoppage of Agricultural Imports from the US - Is having a game of 'kick each other in the nuts repeatedly until one side falls over' really the best approach?

Now, Don't get me wrong: The need to curb China is something I fully embrace, even though it seems that more then a few on the left have yet to wake up to this, but this (to me) seems like the least efficient way to do so (unless the goal is to grab each other in a flaming embrace and drag china off the bridge together).

Time to affect China’s economy. 3% is a contraction from its earlier growth.

Then there is no right for one country to dictate that another cannot have nuclear weapons.

I really find this fascinating. Not the criticism of Trump's policy with North Korea, but siding with John Bolton in his criticism of Trump's North Korea policy! Bolton is an advocate for first strikes against North Korea to halt it's weapons program, so yes, by Bolton's standards, we are not "exerting maximum pressure on North Korea."

So to be clear, are you advocating war or some sort of military first response?

North Korea has no more or less of a right to have nuclear weapons than the US. If you have a problem with this, invade.

What? Affect it how? It grew 6.9% in 2017 and 6.6% in 2018. 2019 looks to be between 6 and 6.6% again.

Also, the 3% is the increase in Foreign Direct Investment that occurred post-Tariff implementation. Not sure where you got a contraction out of that...?
