I live in a city that banned single family homes. Racism and the environment aren't the main reasons used. In large cities, there are big problems with housing costs. If you have single-family homes, you have people more spread out. This results in longer commutes, more car traffic since its impractical to take the bus if you live far away, and affordable housing only available far away. Also, there is simply less housing available if it is spread out with with low supply and high demand, we get really high prices.

On the one hand, Democrats tell us the native population in the U.S. is not reproducing enough... we simply must have more immigration (illegal aliens).
On the other hand, Democrats tell us that environmental imperatives require less reproduction and hogwash like forcing multi family housing into areas where there is no crowding whatsoever.

The truth is that the topic is yet another way to win at the polls in a slimy way by soft gerrymandering. And that they get hollow virtue signaling and ever more "green" graft for crony companies, contractors and grantees is the cherry on top.

Is there ANY Democrat political tactic that isn't some kind of obvious scheme or scam to either buy votes or subvert rules they themselves were part of creating?

Do they EVER approach politics in a straightforward "here's our policy and the reasons you should vote for it" way?

Shim sham flim flam shuck and jive, always looking for some cheezy angle, to run some street hustle shell game. What honest, ethical person would associate themselves with this kind of crap?

I have no idea where you live but I have lived in 3 states Mass,N.J and Pa. in several towns and ALL have had ZONING LAWS restricting what you can and cannot build on your own property. The town I live in right now has extremely strict zoning laws requiring lot size of at least two acres to build a single family house which then must conform to rigid building standards.

Zoning laws which were implemented by the mayor and council members who live in those towns, not by politicians who probably never stepped foot into those towns.

When you lose your middle class there is no need for homes like the dems want to zone out of existence.

Gotta prepare for what both parties are creating. A few rich in castles and the rest of America living like serfs. It will save the planet because we can no longer afford the middle class Their consumption creates too much co2. And the elites must have their private jets and mansions with 25 bath rooms.

Looks like the "New Deal" all over again because it worked out so good for blacks. It's amazing the stupidity that the Democratic party will not only accept but rabidly support from their own party.

This is all straight out of the UN's Agenda 21 plan and the Degrowth movement.

Perhaps making it illegal for Dem politicians to live in single family homes would be a good start.

The other reason is that real estate investors want to get people out of houses and into apartments. The reasons? One: people in apartments are easier to control. Two: When the property goes up in value the investor gets the wealth, not the schmuck who lives in the apartmet.

Each and every town I have ever lived in, and paid real estate taxes to, has had it's own zoning laws and building standards and requirements all of which must also conform to the laws and standards dictated by the state.

That is a good analysis of the issue that tends to get overlooked. Thanks for posting it.

Gotta love the Democrats. You work ass off to get away from the crime and poverty and they use the power of the state to force it back in to your community. Our 1st amendment right of freedom of association is yet another constitutional right the left are attacking. Most Americans don't want their tax dollars used to move in a bunch of single mothers with gang-banging kids in to their middle class community to sell drugs to their children. Put this housing units in elite communities FIRST. Nothing sickens me more than hearing the elites prattle on about diversity and forcing it on lower classes while they have absolute zero tolerance for it in their own gated communities. Why anybody believes the crap they are selling is beyond me.

It is not lost on me that the author of this particular law is a 1st generation Muslim immigrant. There can be no doubt what his intention his.... chain Muslim migration into middle class white communities in Virginia. The state is completely screwed.

    California is doing it now.
My HOA of single family homes has been having
    meetings on it.

We do have "Mother In Law" unit laws,
but the proposed would be separate addresses.

Makes perfect sense. Now that the inner city is destroyed the Democrats want to get to work on the suburbs.

Libs hate freedom and the American way of life. Their authoritarianism is disgusting.

I had an eighth grade social studies teacher back in 1976. He was a lib. And he told us single family homes were bad for society. He said apartment buildings were the ideal and should be encouraged with all the power of government.

A little elbow room and horse culture! Damn man, that's just plain wrong; that invokes the idea of freedom! :)

That's exactly what's going on. The total population of America lives on a small percent of the total land in the country. We pesky humans are taking up too much of "their" property, so we need to be stacked, packed and smashed into using less that 5% of "their" country. Currently 67% of the population lives on 3.5% of land area.

Big city zoning laws are being set by the United Nations though. The local city council and mayor are voting and approving the goals. "Sustainable Development", moving everyone onto less land looks almost exactly the same in every liberal city in the country...and western Europe. The strategy is distributed through a global "Council of Mayors".

The most liberal city in Texas, Austin, is doing the same thing right now. They're about to vote on new "Land Use" codes, which come from the UN directives. The code proposes that if you buy a small home on a large lot, you cannot raze the home and build a larger home on your property. You can maintain the small home, and perhaps add a room, but if you want to tear down the house and rebuild, you will be required to build multi-family housing.

    https://communityimpact.com/austin/...hed-single-family-homes-in-multifamily-zones/

Managing Governing us in the future will be much more efficient.

Like most things, I comes down to wealth redistribution.

White flight removed tons of inner city funding that helped support low income people. When the suburbs grew all that was left was low income and thus the free fall of urban centers.

They don't want people to leave so they must continue to support other people.

The US has so much available land to build, that's not the issue.

The issue is.. the city folk want everybody to live in densely populated areas.

The Russians agreed with this type of social engineering. Good job.
