    ----------------------------------------------------

For anyone's info, after the hospital trust fund is depleted (2026), WE THE PEOPLE will wake up with a near $40 billion Medicare deficit, and according to the Fund's Trustees, said deficit will grow to .5% of GDP by 2035, thus, to near $200 billion.

Also, said deficit is the main reason why Trump made several proposals to cut cost, such as; allowing the states to buy cheaper drugs from Canada.

Seems like I remember that this has been his plan all along. He's been waiting to make sure that imported drugs are "clean", not contaminated. ...and Canada had concerns that they would run into shortages for their citizens if they exported, so they'd have to ramp up quantities in production runs.

It's a win for the American people definitely! Lowers the costs and doesn't raise taxes.

    What a joke.
I have been buying from Canada for a while.
The exact same drugs for about the same price as my price here after insurance coverage.
If he wants to fix it, fix why they cost several times more here to start with.
    Try it.

And notice there is no time frame ... you'll forgive us if we doubt Trump's intentions to follow through - sort of like the north Korean thing, and the National Debt thing, and the better health care thing - none of which were any more than empty rhetoric for elections.

IF he actually follows through, then I will give him credit.

This seems a little bizarre to me. I have been purchasing drugs from Canada and Germany for some time. But why has the government been so slow to recognize that lots of people are buying from Canada prices for the same drug is 50-80% lower. Wall*Mart, Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS and Safeway (mega pharmacies) have banded into a buying group and bombed the price on drugs with their GoodRX Card. If you haven't pick up one yet, do so at these pharmacies or your doctors office. Sometimes drug prices are lower than insurance plan deductible or Canada.

If the federal government wants serious reform, allow Medicare and Medicaid to negotiate for drugs. It's asinine to stick to the current policy that just pushes up costs for these programs. In a reverse action, the private sector finally got tired of waiting for government action, picked up the ball and bombed the prices in the free market. The government is so far behind the private sector on this it is sad and ridiculous. In short this "action" by the government is a day late and a dollar short. We have moved on without them and I love it. These mega pharmacies have so much market clout this isn't going to go away.

That still leaves the cost of drugs for federal programs. Will Congress ever get a backbone and do the right thing? Doubtful.

Would this not be something the lefties in congress would support and push as their plan? I have heard nothing but "freeshit for everybody" from them.

A proposed rule would allow states, wholesalers and pharmacies to propose programs for purchasing certain brand-name drugs from Canada. States will have to submit their proposals to the federal government for approval, and the drugs would be tested for authenticity and safety. The proposals will also need to demonstrate that they will lower costs for American consumers. “Under this option, states could not import more complex — and often more expensive — medications, such as biologic drugs, intravenous drugs, products injected in the spinal column or eye, or controlled substances,” the Post explains.
    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-plan-allow-drug-imports-002026713.html

I hope this happens, but the proposal announced on July and has made no progress since then.

Do you ever miss a chance to change a discussion to an arguement of how bad "lefties" are. I notice you had no praise for this plan, does that make you a "lefty"?

Yes by all means make the rest of the world share the cost of developing prescription drugs fairly instead passing it off to the US.

That will certainly raise drug prices in Canada and lower them in the U.S.

Only lowering the cost of drugs does little to nothing to resolve our over inflated prices for everything in the medical field.Whether it be the too high cost to educate our doctors to the excessive fees they charge once they are fully certified,to the way too expensive hospitals and surgical procedures and medical devices too the profit greedy health insurance companies. All are way too expensive for average working Americans and they are delivering less than adequate results. The highest cost health care in the world yet we rank 37th in the quality of our health care. Our third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer is MEDICAL ERRORS!!!!

Hell you need to get with Opion8d he claims 50-80% less cost then most U.S. pharmacies. Like I say in my case, I take a statin and a Blood pressure, 90 day refill on both is $12, I figure that's pretty cheap ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

Nah generally burnt with the yearly annual wellness visit, blood work and the 30 minute bullshit session, Doctor is a personal friend ;) I have never paid more then a few bucks on my meds! And nice thing about my Doc is he generally fills a bag full of samples of my meds. Last time it was well over six months worth of both LOL.. So its like buy one and get one free or 18 months worth for $48..
