When Buzzfeed and like sites had layoffs "Learn to Code" became hate speech.... Good going Biden.

Are you inferring coal minors are incapable of learning. There are online tutorials that pretty much anyone can learn.

I taught myself to code in BASIC and HTML and had some personal successes with it, but would never have been better than mediocre had I gone to school for it and then tried to earn a living in the field doing 'real' programming. So Biden thinks that men raised to work with their hands in physically dangerous environments could simply snap their fingers and change who and what they were HAMMERED into becoming over the course of decades? This is the best and brightest of the Dem Party presidential hopefuls? Holy crap!

I'm saying a lot of coal miners probably couldn't learn to code to save their lives, not just as a question of IQ, but of interest as well... just as a huge swath of those who code probably wouldn't survive a week mining coal.

Hillary Clinton devoted an entire chapter in her book, "What Happened?" about the devastating "We're going to put coal miner out of business" gaffe. Her book was a post mortem examination of her failed campaign, and that one gaffe was discussed as being about the fatal bullet in the corpse.

But apparently Joe Biden can't read, because he went and repeated the same mistake TWICE!

It's astonishing how bad the Democrats have become at the whole running for President thing.

Almost anyone could learn it. If Joe Biden wanted to, he could. Same as Trump.

I think a better question is why do some people, such as yourself, feel talents are "given at birth?" We choose to learn or we choose not to, it's that simple. To say that someone isn't "cut out for something" is just an excuse for people choosing not to learn. Talent is practice and perseverance. That's it.

Journalism is on its deathbed. Many journalists are learning to code but they aren't very happy about it.

I thought the whole impeachment thing was chucking Biden under a bus but now he seems to have dived by himself?

Not to mention the 10s of millions of jobs lost as the byproduct of those energy job losses...

Only if you believe in the theory of tabula rasa. Fact - not everything is for everyone. I'm not even saying that all coal miners are incapable of learning to code, haven't said that once. I'm saying Biden is an idiot for just lobbing the idea out there as simply as he did, as anyone with real life experience knows that what he's saying is unrealistic.

Hmm, not everything is for everyone. I don't think that's actually a fact, that's a conclusion you are making and is more of an opinion or personal philosophy let's say. Also, your conclusion that he's an idiot for saying that is based on what? If you know how to code, you can often get a job that either pays more, or is less physically and time demanding and is WAY safer than coal mining. In fact, it would be more idiotic to say, the future is in coal mining and it's a great job. Neither of those statements is backed up by fact. The future of energy is not in coal and coal mining is a dangerous and time consuming job that robs people of their physicality and time with their families.

I think what Joe Biden, and what IS a FACT, is that many coal miners will be out of work due to a changing economy. So the suggestion is learn something new and find a job doing that. Not EVERY coal miner needs to, but many will because the economy won't need as many in the near future as we did in the past. Those are facts and conclusions based on those facts. So perhaps coding isn't the only thing current coal miners who may soon be out of job could transition to, but whatever that is, Joe Biden or Donald Trump or the US at whole should assist that transition to ensure we keep their personal economy and the nation's economy moving.

Same here, my problem is lack of attention to syntax "As in most my posts" :) I'd have to run debug after a hundred lines of code and there would always be error. Plus my WPM with three finger typing technic doesn't make a very productive coder lol...

What I did love was Autodesk 3D cad! The first booted copy I got came from a guy in Washington. It was is like 15+ diskettes "Zipped" and we transferred it on the state of the art 4800 baud modems, took like thirteen hours.. The last two disks were the worst, spend all that time and to have it crash at that point would have been crushing :) Still amazed today that all the files opened "unzipped" uncorrupted and actually installed.. I still keep them on the shelf as a sort of trophy...

I'd bet my life savings Joe couldnt run a script on Excel.

    But coding? Easy.

Working at CERN is not for me, neither is working an oil rig. I'm not intellectual suited for one, not physically suited for the other. People have mental and physical limitations, that's a fact. It's not actually my problem if you're unable or unwilling to accept that. I mean, why would the military use the ASVAB to determine what occupation a new recruit is best suited for if not? Why don't they just let the kid with a barely passing score fly jets or work with nuclear reactors on a sub... because hey, anyone can do anything, everyone is the same!

If Biden would've suggested that coal miners need some sort of transitional vocational training, there wouldn't be much to argue about, other than the future of coal related work. But that's not what he did.
