Not sure I trust those onboard computers though. I certainly don't believe the one in my 7.5 ton motorhome. It claims an overall 33 MPG but I know it only does about 20-25.
True that. One thing you can be sure of, though, is that a diesel will get better fuel economy than a similar gasoline engine. How are diesel prices relative to gas for you? Where I'm at, they're always a little higher, sadly.
Same here, a few pence per litre higher. Older diesels are starting to be restricted in some city centres though because of the particulates.
Both of my trucks are too old. The motorhome is 2006 and my kitchen (food truck) is 1988. If I were to take either of them into London it would cost over £200 a day for the privilege.
We don't have anything that severe here, as far as I am aware. I see dirty diesels around (trucks "rolling coal") pretty commonly. Land of freedumb.
It's been many years since I stuck a tax disc on a car. All monies, including the road fund license are collected by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, well his department anyway, and placed in the consolidated fund. These funds are then allocated in the form of grants to government departments including the Department for Transport. This will explain why despite 44 billion pounds being collected each year from the motorist in petrol and road tax, your roads still look like the RAF uses them for bombing practice.

re-readng your post, you and I agreed, I thought you said "here it was $8.00", I misread your post the highest it was, was under Bush and it never got to $8, that was why I was asking could go up again with the issues in Iran, let's hope not
What for two months? It was because of that oil refinery and dropped back down again , I remember paying $5 bucks a gallon in North Carolina
It was me that talked about $8 but I am in the UK where the tax is much higher and the gallons are larger.
sorry, I forget not all posters here are Americans, in other countries that could be true, I would not know
Sales of diesel cars have dropped from 50% of all new cars to 25% as a result of uncertainty over future regulations. Although modern diesels are much cleaner than they were. Government advice a few years ago was to buy diesels due to the lower CO2 output which comes with higher MPG but since then the worries surrounding particulates have led to a reversal in the advice. Many people bought diesels as a result of the earlier advice but extra costs and restrictions added to faster depreciation has scared people away from them now.
I wonder why they would depreciate more quickly. It's my understanding that diesel engines hold up better than gasoline engines, thanks in part to the diesel fuel kind of acting like a lubricant.
As a result of the uncertainty over future regulations. Diesels used to depreciate more slowly due to their superior reliability and better MPG. Also, there is a cost which comes with maintaining the emissions quality as vehicles get older.
And the prospect of war with Iran is driving speculators crazy If Iran really wants to retaliate they should simply stop selling oil
nope, the highest ever prices in ny came during the obama years, worse being 2012 when diesel wast just under $6/gallon...
