For months I advocated that Pelosi not march into a sham trial with a cooked verdict and the rules of the game stacked to turn the case into a PR victory for Trump. I was outraged at the pure partisan pettiness of the GOP, and I thought Mitch McConnell the master of parliamentary and procedural tactics, would so box in any House managers, that they simply would be unable to make a case. It seemed to me that we should do what we could do, and impeach, but turn away from a foregone and inevitable outcome, refuse them their prosecutors, and their acquittal and force them to dismiss, letting the public record in the House suffice. The case was going to be smothered to death in the senate, why leave them with our bodies as well?

I was dead wrong and many of my allies, here were 100% right, not just for political reasons, or to distract Trump from fomenting yet another scheme for the last 3 months which we have successfully done ( he's been fixated on what we have found, what we are saying and what we are doing here, and that is a very very good thing for not two, but three months) , but for history.

    1. Pelosi was right to stall to provide time for more information, and pressure for witnesses, but knows that it was impossible to walk away once you start this process. The case is stronger now that it was a month ago.
    2. She knows she has the talent and the experience in her caucus, and in her choice of committee chairs to come up with a first rate team of managers.
    3. The record and the arguments in the Senate proceedings will cement the reputations of these Senators and this historic effort for decades.

I, a son of a prosecutor, somehow forgot the power of being right, and knowing you are right to provide dignity and clarity to the case, and the arguments, no matter how hard others try to mock and shield and sabatage.

We needed to go to trial, because the sobriety of the stakes involved, demanded one. I just got lost in the partisan grass.

When I look back, there was nothing more Dems and and real patriots could do than what was done. We left no stone unturned, that would not have taken past November to turn. I give Pelosi all sorts of credit, as well as those Dems from swing or purple states, who actually pushed Pelosi to do this despite the risks in their home districts. As for those managers, they should sleep well despite the partisan results. They refused to allow themselves to be discouraged or baited by the pettiness, and the manipulative partisan gamesmanship from what was their singular duty.

Even if we lose seats, it was still worth doing. The country needed to be reminded of what honor, duty and integrity look like. They have not seen much in the last 3 years.

Our next job, is to haunt those 'moderate' republicans like Collins, and Murkowski, who are about to make a lot of speeches about how what the President did was wrong, how he needs to take stock of his behavior, and this vote should not be taken as a validation of what he did. IT IS VALIDATION, and these people did the validating. They covered his behind, and he has every right to feel emboldened that they will cover his behind every time. We need to follow these Senators and Congressmen everywhere they go, , shout them down, and make sure that they cannot get away from their votes to acquit.

They were Moscow Mitch's mercenaries just as much as Graham was and Nunes were.. When they try to backtrack on these votes, we just shove them right back in their boneless faces.

Since none of the people's in this particularly vicious little snipe hunt understand either patriotism, honor, or common decency you have completely missed the boat. Don't feel to bad though there's a lot of sad sack bought into this vicious game of political hackery conducted by schiftless and naddled.

I was waiting for the punchline. It won’t be too much longer till US Attorney Durham shows the country what your listed qualities look like, however I don’t think they’ll have anything to do with this impeachment process.

I saw a poll today that 69% of R’s want witnesses and heard calls to Senators have been heavy but not healthcare debate heavy. So there appears to be pressure.

I want to hear the Trump team arguments. If they’re as nutty as they’ve been to date there is going to be blow-back if there are no witnesses.

I’ll be calling my Senators again tomorrow especially when I heard one was reading a book between her excursions off the floor. Seriously, you can’t at least sit on your butt for a few days and pretend you’re listening? And then that tweet? A class act.

Politicians love camera time and love to talk. Now they have it on steroids. What they don't like is tough questions.

I have to agree. This is a bad mistake on Pelosi's part. Trump's obstructionism itself would have been a good excuse for the trial to have been held off for a very long time, possibly into next September or October. This would have the spectacle of the Republican Senators just completely ignoring Trump's flat out criminality fresh in people's minds for the election. Now Trump will have almost a full year to scream "fake news" and "complete exoneration" even though neither are even close to reality.

OTOH maybe the people might rise up and demand that the Republicans throw Trump out now or face defeat in November. Stranger things have happened. (And I think Milly Bobby Brown is the next Emma Watson, so there)

The democrats are not persuading anyone. In fact, thousands, perhaps millions of voters now find themselves on the new right, by default as, socialists move the democrat party ever further leftward.

The greatest value of the three days of Democratic prosecution is that the American public now knows, after a dearth of three years, the power of truth and fact. More importantly, they now know they are not alone in their thirst for justice and honesty in government. Americans, above all else, are fair minded and seek the same fairness and honesty in our courts, our government, and our day lives.

God commanded we not take His name in vain. He commanded we not bear false witness against our neighbors. If we cannot consider the power of these commandments to our rulers and ourselves, then the words, "under God" ring hollow in our pledge of allegiance. To diminish the impeachment as simply a political donnybrook is to deny the relevance of truth and justice in our daily lives.

If nothing else, the impeachment investigation and trial has revealed the underlying strength of America and its people. We now may rejoice in the revelation that America and its people still retain the honesty and character that makes us great. We may now rest assured, that cynics that discount this as a political exercise between rivals, will be held accountable in November.

Well sorry but hurting the fillings of democrats is not yet a criminal offense and so far that's all they've got.

Indeed, history will be the final judge of this whole sorted issue, but the Democrats had to do this.

That the Trumpster fire burns hotter now is only to be expected. They cannot handle the truth. They adore their Liar in Chief.

This proceeding has become an epic failure for the Dems to hold the House in 2020.

Makes me wonder when the Nancy Pelosi inscribed shot glasses will appear.

Yes many Republicans want witnesses. We know there is no one that the dems can call that won't only just voice their opinion. Which means NOTHING. If you want, how about the Republicans can just call the entire RNC donor list and one at a time for the next 8 months we can all just voice our opinion as well. It will mean nothing. How about we drag it out until the day before the election, keep Bernie off the campaign trail.

There are no "facts" unless you consider the fact that aid went to Ukraine and no corruption probe was started. Is that not a fact?

We want witnesses because little Joe Jr. will be eaten alive on the stand and then his senile daddy as well. So much corruption coming from the Obama administration could come out in the trial that the DOJ would have no choice but to appoint a special prosecutor and then dems can be perp walked one at a time out of congress. That is why we want witnesses. democrats started this by that skinny wimp Shifty walking up and open hand slapping the Republicans then wants to hide behind Nancy's skirt, but the Republicans now can pick up Shiff by his scrawny little neck and bitch slap him. Let the fun begin.

No one, absolutely no one, knows anything that they did not know three days ago.

The impeachment proceedings have all of the significance of a Harlem Globetrotters game. It's a show for the benefit of the their fans. This is what they are paid to do. The fact that they pretend to be competitive basketball players or congressional representatives is really quite beside the point.

the impeachment is a sham, plain for anyone that has at least one living brain cell, to see... so far it's been nothing but 'story time' by the prosecutor, snifster hasn't offered up any oath worthy testimony

wondering when hillary will sue the dnc for not delivering on their promises of impeachment... she is, afterall, their gatekeeper & 'owner' (she paid off all their debt that obama left them hanging with, ergo she 'feels' they owe her the whitehouse)... she must have forgot to take(pack) something after bill's departure...

Petty much the clownish Dem Party show is guaranteeing Trump's re-election. Just like the Right predicted.
