I guess trump is considering another tax break for the wealthy. Better hold onto your hats. Oh....and if you haven't started getting SS yet....too bad.

trump cares about trump and the wealthy. Why the low income masses bow to his lies....is beyond explanation.

That should bother his core base a bit. considering it's mostly composed of a large percentage of our venerable 65+ population.

But, of course, they're counting on one thing: they know that he's a pathological liar who has no idea what he says. But they are not counting onthe fact that he also has no idea what he does. So somebody presses him on it... and he could very well push grandma's wheelchair off the cliff.

Most of us realize that not doing something about it is even worse.

I got through 3/4 of the article before NYT cut me off. I didn't see any quotes of Trump saying the word Medicare or Social Security. I did see the NYT use a simile mentioning those programs.

But like I said, I'm not a subscriber and they cut me off.

Wouldn't it be epic justice if the +65 voters, who backed Trump by a 53% over 44% margin, would get their SS and Medicare benefits from the hated government gutted, to pay for the tax cuts for the rich and corporations? It's not like we have not told them so.

In any case, two things are likely to happen:

    1) Whatever SS and Medicare cuts will be made, they will be pushed into 2021.
    2) The +65 age crowd will be exempted from the cuts.

Trump can't risk alienating his senior base for 2020. Make no mistake, those people actually want SS and Medicare cuts -- for other people. Their own government gravy, nobody can touch it.

Trump cares about me. I'm not rich and he's helped me a lot.

Whereas every action Obama took hurt me.

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/23/politics/donald-trump-medicare-entitlements-cuts/index.html

"Asked by CNBC at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, whether entitlements would ever be on his plate, Trump responded, "At some point they will be."
"We have tremendous growth. We're going to have tremendous growth. This next year I -- it'll be toward the end of the year. The growth is going to be incredible. And at the right time, we will take a look at that," he added.
Asked by CNBC whether he was willing "to do some of the things that you said you wouldn't do in the past, though, in terms of Medicare," Trump said: "We're going look."

"I mean we've never had growth like this. We never had a consumer that was taking in, through -- different means, over $10,000 a family," he said
    ."

You are saying Trump didn't say these things?

BTW: $10,000 per family? What a crock. His lies are getting bolder and bolder.

I'm making far more money in my 401K than what the government has planned for me regarding SS and Medicare.

Social Security and Medicare are not entitlements they are investments that you can only collect from IF YOU PAID INTO THEM!!And those on Social Security CONTINUE paying into Medicare every month out of their checks as long as they live.I have paid into Medicare since the first day it began and still do.

I look at what Trump has done. Not what you say that he said he is going to do.

Everybody doesn't have 401K or IRA accounts. For some folks all they have to depend on is their SS.

    They are mandatory social programs.

I can not opt out of either one of them.

It is a mandatory government program where my money is confiscated from my paycheck without my permission.

What they should do is gut the government employees retirement benefits which are far better than anything offered by the private sector and that would include all of congress and the president and V.P.Give them the same Social Security and Medicare we pay into and give them the same 401K's the private sector now offers their employees since they cancelled well over 100,000 private pension plans. Why should OUR EMPLOYEES get far better benefits than we who pay them.

Who seriously thinks SS shouldn't and Medicare shouldn't be means tested? Do you really think, Bill Gates et Al needs government help to cover his health care?
The only other thing that's likely to happen is that retirement age will be booted up a year or two for the non disabled. When the program was first established most women didn't work outside the home and the average life expectancy was 65. Now women are fully in the work force, but life expectancy is 78, and retirement age is 67. The math no longer works

50% of single senior citizens living alone and 23% of retired couples living on Social Security today cannot afford to pay for their basic monthly needs. Our seniors live at a lower standard than any in any other modern industrial economy.

This is tragic. SS should at least provide for senior citizens basic necessities.
