Everyone knew that the budget breaking tax break for the wealthy would balloon the budget. Now...as they always do....the GOP blames entitlements. The GDP did not top 4 percent ad trump claimed.

Let the poor people pay for the tax cut for the rich. Same old GOP tune....

The tax revenue went up with that "budget breaking tax beak for the wealthy". The problem was not the tax cut. The problem was spending too much money including the entitlements.

 

Any changes to Social Security or Medicare would have to pass Congress first. It's not up to the president.

I certainly hope he's targeting entitlements. Most of us have no problem giving people in genuine need a hand-up, but the dems have been giving food stamps and welfare and a variety of freebies to people who have no intention of standing on their own feet, and doing that for years- making people dependent, stealing their self-respect, trying to turn them into drones totally addicted to socialism and the hand-outs they think will control people minds- and votes.

Because it isn't welfare. They take my money with the promise of giving me a pension when i retire and helping with medical bills. Doesn't matter if I'm making min wage working 10 hours a week, am a billionaire CEO or somewhere in between. They take the money regardless and make that promise to all. Create an opt out to those programs and we can talk about testing.

And everyone of them is in Demographic death throes because there aren't enough people entering the work force every year to offset new retirees. Add to that legacy companies are almost the only employers so the youth unemployment rate is relatively high and you've a disaster in the making.

 

We do quite nicely on our 1600 a month but then most of our stuff is paid for, we aren't financing a mc mansion, buying a new Mercedes every two years or other things. We simply chose as much as possible to live within our means.

No, it is a BS point, 557, and you are a smart guy, so you know it.

It is a BS point, because the <1% interest rate was set by the Fed to fight deflation (if the Fed can actually affect long term interest rates, which is debatable, my view is that the low interest rate was close to the market rate, due to too much capital in hunt for too few qualified borrowers).

Second, QE was a central bank tool to fight off deflation. Debt deflation had NOTHING to do with Obama, but was brought to us thanks to the great recession, which happened under GWB's watch.

We need to continue to make these points because more and more it is forgotten that the great recession WAS NOT Obama's making, he was just unlucky to inherit it.
