We all know full well that, if you could opt out of SS, people like you would do it, but then still run to the government for help should they fall on hard times. Conservatives like to talk a good talk about "their money", but they are as likely as anyone else to use government benefits in the time of need. They just don't want to pay for them when the going is good. So, who again are the moochers wanting free stuff?

It's true that Obama did not cause the mortgage recession, and that he did inherit the aftermath. Unfortunately, his approach to rebuilding the economy during his tenure was more wishful thinking and lip service than action. When Trump won the election, to the day- that turned around. To The Day- Nov 8, 2016.

Yesterday, Schumer spoke about the comment from Davos, saying that Trump is looking to cut SS. As a reaction, Trump tweeted out:

“Democrats are going to destroy your Social Security. I have totally left it alone, as promised, and will save it!”

I imagine this will be one of his campaign talking points. But how in the world does he think he can make this one stick? Trump's base calls Dems the party of hand outs and social safety nets...why would they want to cut SS?

With the sheep in the GOP Senate....you think they can stop him?

trump is evil. When the Senate acquits him, he will realize that with the submissive Senate, the guardrails are off....He will try every dirty trick in the book to get re-elected.

Remember, when he had grownups in his Cabinet? They were able to stop him from committing impeachable offenses. Once he shuttled them out, he is Impeached. trump is like the King with no clothing. There is no one in his regime that is willing to tell him "NO!".

It is entirely possible that the Democratic House will need to Impeach the SOB again. His mental state is worsening on a daily basis.

I would say President Trump's mental state is just fine thank you very much, it is the mental state of the anti-Trumpers that I question.
I am sure I am missing fifteen or twenty others but let's just look at these,

My belief is that cuts to Social Security would be almost impossible to pass through Congress regardless of which party controls Congress.

And it becomes your problem when you have old people starving to death and homeless.

Unfortunately no. I can alert Trump's base, and show them how Trump is actually hurting them more than helping them. But I can't save them from their .... uhm... excessive, unconditional and irrational loyalty to a corrupt god-like figure (there is a word that encompasses this, but it might get me in trouble if I use it) So in the end, when it comes to choosing between reality and what your idol and the Fox echo chamber tells you.... you guys are on your own.

I agree low interest rates can help fight deflation. But they continued far too long. Considering economic growth rates and effects on deflation by energy markets, the zero artificial rate was unwarranted later in Obama’s administration.

Commercial and industrial loan growth was only negative between 2008 and 2011, so I don’t buy the zero rate would have been market rate without interference. After 2011 loan growth was excellent.

Also, bank profitability rebounded before ‘09 into the positive and grew after that at sometimes record rates.

In essence, banks did well, and fixed income people who depend on positive interest rates suffered. Of course the stock market did well under QE as was expected, in fact that was the main goal in my opinion. Again, wealthy people were able to take advantage of this, but those with investments directly tied to interest rates suffered.

At the end of the day, the “rich” benefitted at the expense of those dependent on interest income. Right or wrong, that’s how it played out. Our fellow forum member was right to point that out. Those people took a big hit for the team if that’s how you want to look at it. We should at least acknowledge that.

No, it doesn't become my problem unless you are going to use the government to force me to take care of them.

    This is already happening.

What would your solution be? Let them die in the streets if thats what was called for?

Citing a news article with language like "Trump opened the door," Trump signaled," "Trump suggested," and "we will take a look at that.” Wow, you've really got him now.

    My solution?

Stop forcing me to take care of other people.

    this is nothing new.
As usual Republican supporters count on democrats to bail them out. If they can’t, they’ll blame the Dems for not fixing what they screwed up fast enough. It happens with recessions, the Iraq war, formation of Isis and now Medicare.

I can't believe that you are as naive as you come across in this statement...

"[The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services] had policies and procedures to ensure that payments were not made for Medicare services rendered to unlawfully present beneficiaries in accordance with Federal requirements, but it did not always follow those policies and procedures," the audit said."

Bureaucrats are often caught doing things that are unlawful or contrary to policies.

And during the Obama years certain Medicare beneficiaries were targeted and had their claims denied because they simply lived in Republican House districts.
So tell me how smart it would be on my part to go along with, "Medicare for all," when the Democrats can't even honestly administer it when it is designated for people who actually paid into the system.

The majority of recipients in red states are minorities, hence Democrat voters.

A just and fair society helps take care of the sick and the poor.

    So, again, I ask you.

Should the poor and the sick be left to fend for themselves and live or die as the fates choose?
