It looks to me like President Trump was correct and what may have seemed like a tough policy at first actually is working over the longer term! I am not exactly shocked that Mexico would change its policies and approach to their border policies once they were shown that America was simply not going to take everybody in that they sent to the USA. https://www.foxnews.com/world/mexico-blocks-guatemala-migrants
Granny says, "Dat's right... ... we got too many Hispexicans as it is... ... dey done exceeded dey's quota!"
Mexico stopped them because they don’t want to be stuck with them when they don’t get into the U.S. Diplomacy is the art of getting others to act in your self-interest. Trump is very good at getting other people to act in our interest.
Even the local Mexican officials are fed up with the migrants. https://www.foxnews.com/world/mayor...avan-migrants-calls-them-bums-and-pot-smokers
My wife is from Ecuador so I identify with this question more so than you might imagine but America has to shown the respect of people going through the proper channels to come to America.
Regardless of nationality, doing things the correct way garners a lot of respect for people who are trying to improve their lives. While I am sure there are a number of people who have come to our borders and qualify for asylum, they have to hold the other people who do not qualify, or attempt to enter illegally for additional difficulties they may encounter. Just as with many things, those who cheat, hurt those who don't.
Exactly!!! When the proper channels are followed those who make it through have a deeper appreciation for what they accomplish. There were psychological studies that I think relate to this principle. https://people.howstuffworks.com/culture-traditions/national-traditions/hazing2.htm There are other studies on how fraternities with difficult initiation rituals seem to be more satisfied with their fraternity than frats with easy rituals.
The only thing lacking with the US immigration policy is enforcement. Every time we try the ACLU and others are all to ready to challenge it in court.
