The democrats are not persuading anyone. Everything they do is for their own self gratification. They only do it to make themselves feel good. The Russia hoax - political self gratification. The impeachment show - political self gratification. Stormy Daniels - need I say more? They have completely abandoned persuasion. In lieu of arguing point counter point, they redefine those who don't agree with them as evil rather then wrong. Isn't that what socially frustrated people do? They've got no game. There is no analog to Turning Point USA, #blexit or #walkaway in the other political direction. The hypersensitive, fragile, victim, beta thing has played out. It's time to grow up and earn your own money. There's no need to huddle together around the left pole. Don't be afraid of the 'other'. Learn to stick up for yourselves and your beliefs. The political porn provided by media pails in comparison to real political intercourse, but name calling and conspicuous exclusionary behavior isn't going to get you any action in the adult world. You can't avoid defending yourselves by labeling the 'others' as evil, and therefore not worthy of debate, if you want to actually win an argument - ever. If you don't learn to engage those who don't agree with you in some ways other than name calling, shouting down and labeling as "evil", you're going to remain political self-gratifier, some might say, a jerk.
I might agree with you except for the fact that this problem we see in the political world is not a one-sided problem. The name calling, the stereotyping, the us/them mentality is common all across the political landscape. It's rare to see a civil discussion that doesn't quickly break down into name-calling and a mostly personal assault style of commenting. To be honest, I think we are attracted to this reality tv drama-queen style of arguing. Politics merely provides a platform for it.
Nothing good comes from disagreeing with people rather than ideas, but the very worst things come from agreeing with people rather than ideas.
You seemed to be focused on two things, the mutuality of the "problem" and the ubiquity of ad hominin attacks. From those, you deduced that the proverbial we "are attracted to this reality tv drama-queen style of arguing". Was mine not the next point in the sequence? Did it not follow?
