That's essentially the same as saying that 'under the theory that at least some of the GOP representatives SHOULD have been susceptible to blackmail or other political pressures it wasn't really an utterly partisan vote at all.'

And? One of those was jumping to the republican side as he was polling poorly in his district and the lone independent voted with democrats. Whats your point?

Congress also has the power of subpoena. The Senate may vote to subpoena whomever they wish. If it's contested, then adjourn the trial while a Supreme Court ruling is obtained.

Since when doesn't executive privilege not apply because the President called someone a name?

Per your own quote: "So because zero republicans broke rank you believe that is a fault of the democrats?"

The republicans didn't break ranks because this is an abuse of power for sure, but by the house democrats. Regardless, 2 democrats agreed with the republicans that this was an absolute sham and polling only shows how divided as a nation we are. This country has irreparably been damaged from this event and the left has destroyed and semblance of middle ground.

The Senate and the House could have subpoenaed the entire Swamp by now.
Instead you want to keep trying to nullify the 2016 election and rig the 2020 election.
Corrupt Washington to the American people: "We don't need anymore elections we might lose."

The election of 2016 remains intact. The history books will record Trump the winner, via the electoral college vote. If he is convicted on impeachment, it will note that as well, with VP Pence replacing him. President Pence will undoubtedly carry on with the same policies as his predecessor, less perhaps quid pro quo's for personal gain and in conformance with the Impoundment Control Act, in regard to Congressional funding.

Whenever an elected official is impeached and removed from office an election is nullified.
An impeachment 9 months before an election is nothing more than election rigging.

    This clumsy attempted coup d'etat.

"So you'd think Democrats would distance themselves from former Vice President Joe Biden, whose son Hunter was paid some $50,000 per month for his work for a well-connected Ukrainian energy company as his father was supposed to be the American voice against Kyiv's cashing-in culture.

Au contraire. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., praised former special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker for his "candor" in not questioning Hunter Biden's sweet deal and Joe Biden's failure to stop it. "Thank you for your candor about Vice President Biden's integrity and service," Welch cooed at Tuesday's hearing."

No. You are wrong. The 2016 election results will not change. Neither will the Trump decisions (legally made) be negated (such as his Wall, the tax cuts, his withdrawal from the Paris Accords, etc., etc). They will remain in place, including legislation he signs and executive orders he promulgates until until the day he leaves the White House. I really don't care what happens to either Hunter or Joe Biden. If they broke laws, prosecute them and if they are convicted apply the appropriate punishment. We might start with a "probable cause." Or, is the fact that the child of a President obtains a cushy job that makes them a great deal of money a crime? If so, I can hardly wait for the Jared and Ivanka Kushner trials.

In fact, the whole world is watching the Democratic Party try to overthrow an elected government and rig yet another election as well as its own primaries by timing a flimsy impeachment attempt to once again rig its nomination process for its selected candidate. How many times has the DP rigged its own elections before finally getting caught?

“Brazile has written in a new book that she discovered evidence that she said showed Hillary Clinton’s campaign ***"rigged"*** the Democratic presidential primary.

"ABC's World News Tonight," "NBC Nightly News" and "CBS Evening News" all didn't report the allegations by Brazile on Thursday evening despite it receiving considerable coverage on cable news and in print and online media. Brazile was also trending as one of Twitter's top topics on Thursday.”

Maybe you don't remember that Brazille was the person that secretly passed a couple of debate questions to Clinton before the debate. I believe she's now on Fox, but am not sure. I think she had to resign from her position in the DNC.

Question, Don't former employees of an administration have to have their books vetted for potential classified material?

    Haha thats cute.
So republicans didn’t do that by becoming the “party of no” for six years?
    By stealing a SCOTUS pick?
By demanding Obama’s birth certificate even after he produced it?
By the dozens and dozens of failed investigations into Hillary?
By labeling anyone that doesn’t walk in lockstep with the red hats communist traitors that should leave the country?

I disagree that using taxpayer funds to bribe another nation to investigate a political opponent isn’t impeachable, just his constant lying and dismantling of our institutions should be impeachable as well as his enormous conflicts with his personal businesses.

This country was divided prior to trump, his election against the will of the voter furthered it, the impeachment may have made it worse but it was hardly the cause.

If you don't know what crimes Bush committed you must be very young.

If you don't know what crimes Obama committed you must be young.

I'm an equal opportunity critic. The last decent/honest POTUS I can remember was Carter.

Yes, they do. The current theory is that the leak resulted from this process.

The most advanced and thus the most authoritative ruling on the legal theory used by Trump to prevent these folks from testifying is Judge Jackson's ruling from December.

And then Trump argued that the federal courts can never intervene in those types of issues.

82% of Americans want Bolton to testify.

Why are you so terrified of his testimony?

It was a tactical decision. Part of the Democratic complaint is that Trump does not accept the Mueller Report conclusion that the Russians interfered in the 2016 election. This was why he brought up "the Crowdstrike Conspiracy theory" in his conversation with Zelenskiy, in the tel-con of July 25th. Since he does not appear to accept the Mueller conclusion, the Democrats also see his insistence on a Biden investigation as an indication of his willingness to interfere or allow interference, possibly again with Russian help, in the 2020 election. It was the combination of his request for investigations of both the Crowdstrike theory (which would disprove Mueller's conclusion) and the Biden investigation that led to the Whistle Blower's complaint. The WB appears to have been a Democrat supporter, but that does not necessarily negate his concern or the concern of others...including Republican or Independent staffers as well, regarding the President's request to the Ukraine for investigations that would help him personally in the upcoming election.
So, it was the combination of seeking an investigation of an established conclusion regarding Russian interference in the 2016 election, plus the investigation of the leading Democratic candidate for 2020, that triggered the "credible and urgent" conclusion of the Trump appointed Intelligence IG and Director of National Intelligence. Their evaluation triggered in turn the statutory requirement for the IG to notify Congress. [The DNI also notified the White House and asked for an opinion of the complaint from the Office of Legal Counsel, in the Department of Justice. The WH undoubtedly informed the President, while the OLC simply found no reason to suspect a campaign finance violation, that may have been a result of a quid pro quo involving a Biden investigation.] Meanwhile, the Intelligence Committee had already issued a subpoena to the former WH attorney McGahn on a totally different issue...Trump's presumed order to him to fire Mueller. The WH was fighting the McGahn subpoena and Bolton was saying (relative to a possible subpoena for himself on the Ukrainian issue) he might wait for a court ruling on the McGahn subpoena before deciding whether or not to testify.
Since the McGahn subpoena had been tied up in the courts fo approximately a year, both the House Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee decided that were they to rely on the courts for subpoenas related to the Ukraine issue, the legal battle in the courts could well last beyond the 2020 election, which without a decision could allow for more Russian interference in the 2020 election.
I suspect that IF the Senate votes to acquit the President, as is likely, the House will fall-back on additional investigation and the courts to adjudicate House subpoenas for relevant witnesses and documentation, currently being blocked by the White House.
    Does that explain it?
