Using "emergency powers" to fund something that Congress expressly didn't fund is expanding executive powers.
Claiming "absolute immunity" from Congressional oversight is taking the presidency one step closer to a dictatorship.

You guys are cheering Trump on because you like the things he is doing with his expansive claims of power. What you don't realise is that, if those powers are unchecked, another president will be able to use them to do things you DON'T like.

Emergency powers in order to fund universal health care, anyone?

Obama's "far left turn" would be considered moderate right in most western countries. By US standards, the only "left" policy I can think of is Obamacare, which was only mildly "left". It preserved private health care insurance, free market for doctors etc. It would be considered quite "hard right" in most western democracies.

Trump is taking the country towards a hard nationalist right. Slashing taxes without caring about the deficit.

Your sense of what is "left" and what is "right" is drastically skewed. You are so far right that you think right is middle, and far-right is mildly right. But you are probably not as "right" as you think in some respects. I suspect you support Trump's socialist policies of handouts to farmers.

Thats the fun thing about presidents who abuse their authority and use executive mandates instead of congress to create law — the next president can step in an undo it all with a few strokes of a pen.

trump’s legacy will be: third president impeached, fifth president elected against the will of the voters, first president with trillion dollar deficits each year during his term, first president to roll back environmental regulations en masse... And his numerous quotes and tweets — those will live on.

And the difference with trump’s overreaches and an overreach to bypass congress on universal healthcare is that removing healthcare after it has finally been given to the people would cause outrage. Everything trump passed is petty or superficial and most people will not even notice it’s repeal.

Over the last three Presidents, Executive Orders are being overused. It just indicates that Congress has become terribly dysfunctional. I have a major problem with the recent use of Executive Orders, and that is that they are symbolic and mean nothing unless Congress writes the order into real legislation. EO's might as well be written in pencil because the next President can erase previous EO's with a "reversal" EO. Since Trump is erasing a lot of Obama's EO's, perhaps Democrats are realizing that Obama was not a terribly effective President. He was great with symbolism though.

If Sanders were to come in and erase Trump's EO's and write even more orders, then we are simply at a point where "elections have consequences"....but nothing is really getting accomplished here.

Anyway, the real issue is that Americans should demand that Congress stops endless investigating and get back to their real jobs of legislation on any areas where there is still some room to compromise and come to an agreement. These nonstop Congressional investigations are nothing more than our legislators campaigning for their next reelection - 365 days a year.

The very fact that Sanders is Tweeting the phrase "My first Executive Orders" indicates that he is aware that no Republicans and maybe up to 50% of Democrats who are moderates would block almost any of his proposals from passing legislation and becoming the law of the land. The President after him would likely undo all or most of his EO's....and we end up back at the same place.

Not if the president after Bernie is of like mind, which the BS of the past 3 years makes more likely, not less...

Americans are fickle. Even though the pendulum is swinging left and right toward more and more extremes, the presidency has fairly predictably swung left and right about every 8 years. Obama was the "antidote" to Bush. Trump is the "antidote" to Obama. Perhaps someone like Bernie or Biden will be the "antidote" to Trump....but probably not until 2024.

The emergency powers was passed by Congress and he stayed within the limits. Executive privilege isnt new and should be fought at the courts.

My sense of left and right come from what the parties stood for around 1980, when I was 18. At that time, the Republicans were right and the Democrats were left. Since then, the Republicans have moved somewhat to the right, but the Democrats have moved far, far to the left. The Democratic Party today resembles nothing like it did in the 1970’s or 1980’s.

And I don’t care about the political spectrum in other nations. That’s irrelevant.

Returning to the rule of law is simply returning to what the Founders intended, it was Obama that trashed everything and abused executive powers...

Enforcing existing immigration law isn't far right.

Sanders would have to point out specifically what Trump has done that’s bad for illegals. I’ll assume he’s leaving out ILLEGAL like all leftist commies normally do when speaking about immigration matters. They think we’re too stupid to notice.

Bernie isn’t an antidote. He would be our complete destruction. They guy is a socialist/communist through and through. His entire adult life shows his pattern of insanity. And he’s never created anything. Lived off the the govt dole. What a shining example of a leech.

Yes. Let’s end private healthcare, pay off the loans of a bunch of deadbeats who majored in useless degrees and accepted ridiculous loans. And then let’s open the borders and let everyone in who wants in and the rich people will pay for it all. But no logical rich person will stick around because they could take their money somewhere else and live a nice hoot life. And then we’re just like Venezuela, eating our pets. That country that he used as a shining example of how we should be, before the bottom fell out of course. He an old loon with no grasp of reality or economics. And how could he be? He never needed to understand anything. Just yell FREE, Free, free his whole life.

Wonder if he’ll eat his pets when we’re all starving. Nah, he’ll be taken care of just fine or dead from old age.

Yes Venezuela is a mess and a modern-day dire warning about the outcome of Socialism. It only took Venezuela 20 years of Socialist rules for them to completely fall apart. And I mean "completely" to the point where they have no reliable water, electricity, food or healthcare supplies. All that "free stuff" disappeared quickly and the government tortures and/or shoots anyone who dissents against the government.

    Still...

Sanders would perhaps be a "less dangerous" president than Biden. He would be almost 100% reliant on Executive Orders, because there would be bi-partisan pushback on his Socialist policies from both Republicans and Democrats. His Executive Orders would get challenged in the courts, where Trump has installed many life-time judges. He'd be figuratively hand-cuffed from start to finish. I think Sanders would just be a 4-year "breather" for the country. Not effective at all.

Biden on the other hand, wants to "simply expand a little" on Obamacare and other leftwing policies, the same way that Democrats have moved the country leftward a little at a time, bit by bit. Drip, drip, drip like Chinese water torture.

Pretty fitting of him to be honest , I mean progressives always put illegals and everyone else first over Americans. Bernie just needs americans to pay for it.

Funny thing is, reversing all of the last democrat's Executive Orders is the reason the country is flourishing. Pandering to illegals might jump the CA vote up though, so that's good news for the guy who's gonna get snubbed by his closest friends again anyways.
