Black News Channel set to launch in February: 24-hour national outlet targets black viewers

This is exactly why we need stations like OWN. That's not a good representation of black culture and not what I watch on stations like OWN, BET HER, etc.

 

I wouldn't call him a token but In Living Color was a terrific show. It also brought us J. Lo.

Do blacks need the news explained to them differently? Will the news anchors speak in Ebonics?

So it's ok for one group but not for another, I find this incredibly ironic and only facepalm and marvel.

People have found entertainment watching shows with a Black, White, Hispanic, etc cast. Entertainment is entertainment, why racially divide it? It sends a racist message. I watched Soul Food on several movie channels, not on BET, TNT, VH1, and HBO. Lifetime remade Steel Magnolias using an all Black cast, you don't think that was targeting a Black audience? Also, many Tyler Perry movies feature a predominantly Black cast, but multiple races enjoy his movies and they run on several networks. A lot of TV shows have diverse races because it's just meant to ENTERTAIN people not send out a racial message! People watch the news to stay current on what's going on in the world, why does this need to target a Black audience?

Sorry but I couldn't help but giggle at WET as it sounds like a naughty channel, would have to be CET(Caucasian Entertainment)joking aside why would it be propaganda for hate groups? Seems like a racist assumption. Is that because it would be targeted at a White audience and has a racial label? How is it different for a Black news network? This sends a divisive message.

 

If you don't like it don't watch it, it is as easy as that.

 

If you dont call it the White channel, it's not the same.

We need people to know that that is OUR channel... minorities stay out.

You understand what Demographics are? Are you saying even though Black people make up only a minority of the population they should be equally represented in EVERYTHING? Do you think white people complain that they don’t have equal representation in China or Brazil?

 

So .... for some reason you think you have the right to tell others to be disinterested in their own cultures? People watch what they like and why should I search around for these type of shows on other stations when there are stations dedicated to this type of programming? These stations do a much better job of providing shows that don't appear on other networks with the same level of variety, specialization or frequency. They pick up shows that are cancelled by other networks, that black audiences still want to watch.

I saw the 99 percent statistic in regards to advertising dollars. There are 200 billion plus ad dollars targeted to viewers. 99 percent to white audiences. It's okay to have networks that feature different cultures. It's similar to attending cultural events, like Indian or Latino dance, Asian cooking, etc. Cultural diversity makes life interesting.

 

Well, no, I haven't said any of that. I've said that BET has programming that I enjoy. For some reason others on the thread are complaining. They don't want to watch but they don't want me to be able to either. I guess I should be able to tell them what to watch, too?

As I said, and as you will see in the article, there are many shows that draw in a Black audience and have a diverse cast. However, you still haven't addressed why you said a White News targeting a white audience would be propaganda for hate groups? That's a racist assumption! So Black News targeting a black audience is different, how? Please explain...

CNN, MSNBC, and the other MSM outlets will probably demand their employees to keep their televisions on that channel for ratings.

We have Fox News, remember? The way the left sees it, the gay people there are straight, the blacks and Hispanics are white, and all of them deserve to be criticized. So Fox is completely white and straight.

You mentioned how other stations are “majority white” which is what I responded to. What if some things are majority white? What’s wrong with that? There are a lot of white people so majority is majority. And what is black news? Do black people need the economy explained to them differently so they can understand? Are they going to do wall to wall police brutality videos or something? And if they can’t relate to normal news, what does that mean? Unless it’s just another slanted network that’s designed to lie about the “Right” and try to convince its audience that the US is a racist horrible country? Maybe they’ll do a cover story on Patrick Mahomes and how his life sucks...just won the Superbowl and got MVP and all the accolades that come with it. Maybe do an expose how Black people can’t accomplish anything because the evil white man is holding them back ??? /derp
