You are making a false assumption. That military power can be determined strictly by the amount a nation spends on it. Doesn't work that way.

Besides the fact that China when it comes in terms of purchasing power actually spends MORE on their military than the U.S.

What countries are we occupying that you feel pose no threat to the security of the U.S.?

Military engagements are not as simply defined as you imply. We have vital interest all over the world, our borders are not the only thing we protect.

Do you not think the folks in uniform deserve as much advantage as they can reasonably get? Why would you support cutting the cost to undermined them when there are so many other programs to cut that do not serve the nation or those risking life and limb to defend it?

 

Do you have actual evidence that the U.S. knows how much China spends on its military? During the Cold War the U.S. never knew for certain how much the U.S.S.R. spent on its military. For that matter neither did all but four Soviet officials.

 

Opponents of spending on the U.S. military love to trot out the "no nation can invade the U.S" as an argument that is absolutely idiotic. Deliberately stupid in the extreme. As though a foreign invasion in the only way to threaten the U.S. or its interests.

The United States is completely indefensible within its own borders. Trying to defend the U.S. from within our own borders is like a pro football team trying to keep the other side from scoring any points when you give them the ball on the one yard line...continually.

No matter how strong the defending side is to accomplish that is simply not doable. You have to defend the U.S. (and our goal line) by keeping our enemies as far away and as weak as possible.

 

Why would much of the left care? Their disdain of the military ensures they will never wear the uniform so they do not care how the ones that do are equipped.

 

And we still spend more than twice what those two countries combined, spend. When is enough enough?

I do not much like the concept of U.S. coastal cities being attacked regardless of how far inland those enemy forces can penetrate.

The is always calling for cuts in military spending. It's not a opinion, it's fact. You can see it all you want on this very forum and thread and in the campaigns of this election. You deluding yourself if you think differently.

If we paid our workers the same as they pay their workers in China and Russia and we paid our military the same as they pay those in China and Russian, we could get by on the same budget.

which is a violation of the US constitution. The military is for the defense of the United States, not the occupation of other countries that pose no threat to us.

Our military spending does not serve the nation, or the folks in uniform. It benefits the private contractors and corporations which sell equipment and technology to us.
