Just for a reminder, the guillotine killed mostly other revolutionnaries and poor people, and claimed to be a symbol "fight against oppression".

@Kal'Stang Considering that, it's maybe an accurate symbol ?

    Still love my man Robespierre.

The only ones that made that claim were those that used it. In fact iirc it ended up being used on their main leader because the other leaders became afraid that he would us it on them. (Sorry, am horrible with names so excuse the lack of them here I can give more details after work if you want...am on my phone atm)

In the end it became a symbol of fear and death.

Yes. The origin of the guillotine was that in France, you got different sentences accorded to your rank. You were either hanged or got the breaking weel if you were of the third estate, beheaded if you were noble. For crimes such as homosexuality, witchcraft or heresy, it was the stake.
Robespierre was an influencial member of the revolution, but he wasn't really the "main leader".
    Have a fine day.

I find it funny how leftists always bring up Christianity. Even in threads that have no relation to it what so ever. It's also funny how they never mention any other religion that has in the past, and even to today, that kills people.

Just an FYI for ya for later on down the road Natty...I'm not Christian. In fact I don't follow ANY religious organization. I consider them all to be power hungry greedy idiots. So you might want to not try your whataboutism on me again. It doesn't work.

@Natty Bumpo I'm not christian, but clearly, it's not has the same symbolic. The christian cross symbol the martyrdom and rebirth, there it's used more as a threat.

Your fixation on "leftists" and pretense that noting the iconography is in some manner censorious are noted.

You may have been unaware that Christianity also uses "a symbol of death."

    The cross symbolizes Jesus' crucifixion.

The cross is a symbol of death (as is the guillotine.) For Christians, it is a symbol that evokes Christ's execution.

Enjoy your notation. Doesn't matter to me if you notate wrongly.

Pretty sure that you don't get to define what the cross symbolizes to Christians. You are of course welcome to your own opinion of what the cross means to you. But you are not welcome to define what it means to Christians.

The guillotine was an instrument for inflicting capital punishment, as was the cross.

The simplest and most common Christian cross ... is a visual symbol of Christ, signifying the type of execution that the leader suffered: crucifixion.

Yes, and according to christian dogma, he came back to life 3 days after.
Christian have chosen the cross not to tell other people "we will crucify you if you don't convert to christianity" but to celebrate the sacrifice and re birth of their messia. Christian never used back cross as a way to execute people.

She says it's for the plutocrats and kleptocrats and the wealthy.

I'm against harming the wealthy. They gave me every job I ever had.

The rest sounds like the swamp.:)

WOW, you certainly have a weird idea about the meaning of the crucifix and the guillotine.. Well in a sense, they we both considered entertainment to the Godless but The French to beheading took it to a whole nother level ;)

I suppose it's pointless to mention that the guillotine was created as a means of MERCIFUL executions as compared to hangings.
