Bloomberg explaining how healthcare will “bankrupt us,” unless we deny care to the elderly.

What you are describing -- limiting health care BECAUSE one is old -- ARE death panels.

Notice that the reply to that by the indicated poster was essentially that Death Panels are not Death Panels? So now the political Left is going to change definitions -- again.

As it stands Medicare only provides partial coverage and most retirees have to pay out of pocket and/or get supplemental private insurance. Covering literally everything for the elderly will be very expensive. For example, long-term care in nursing homes isn't covered at all, and it can cost 100 K every year to keep someone in a nursing home. I'd love if taxpayer could pay for everyone's healthcare, no matter how expensive, but we simply don't have the money for it. What kind of tax increase would you like to see for universal coverage?

I have a lot of conservatives on record here who want to end public healthcare completely, and completely eliminate minimum requirements for private health coverage. So what about you? Do you want public healthcare to cover everything?

We already do that. Medicare and Medicaid don't cover everything. You can always get private insurance, but even with Obamacare, which conservatives oppose, the coverage isn't unlimited. And you are free to get a gold plan that covers almost everything, but you have to pay for it. And if all else fails, people do have to pay out of pocket. This already happens. What legislation are you proposing to force taxpayers/insurers to increase coverage?

I dunno, my mother-in-law is living in a long-term nursing home and she's not getting outta there. Basically, her medicare check is just signed over to the place and that's it for her.

She'd also likely be one of the first Bloomberg would pull the plug on.

Had 2 grandmothers in nursing homes for some time, the family spent no where near 100K annual,, it was more like 4K monthly, maybe prices have gone up dramatically ,per google it seems they have, in my examples they were assisted living.

what would I pay for universal care?
well, first I don't really want universal care, but for sake of argument i'll say that I'd go 2% on a payroll tax, whether that be 1% employee 1% employer or even 2%+2% and i'd dump the cap, I'd even be ok with 1% medicare and 1% SS tax on capital gains over 250K.

You may very well be right about this.... "Group Think," pack animals are ripe for Bloomberg's bought and paid for entry onto the debate stage.

In a video, which took place at the Said Business School summit in November 2016, Bloomberg chalked up farmers and tradesmen as individuals with brainless careers that “anybody” can do.

He argued that the new “information economy” actually requires skillsets of “how to think and analyze.”

Not a Bloomberg fan, but agree totally with him on this point. There should definitely be age cutoffs on expensive medical treatments with respect to Medicare/Medicaid. Toss the issue back on the gouging, highly mixed gov-med-pharma industry where it belongs and let them make the calls and take the heat... pro bono or not.

It fits in with their abortion views, the elderly and unborn are seen as less than fully human so therefore expendable. IMHO, an unborn crack baby is more valuable than the last elephant on earth.

if Bloomberg were still calling himself a Republican the media would have ruined his entire life, business, and fortune for the past comments he made.

But now he calls himself a Democrat, so... meh

If Bloomberg wins with Hillary as VP, Bloomberg better hope he don’t end up like Vince Foster & Jeffrey Epstein.

I hope they don’t really believe Hillary would be happy as VP?

This is true to an extent. But as you said: Technologies keep improving all the time. And more to the point, a public program should not force people into decisions or force people to adapt to it. This mechanism was one of the big reasons Obamacare met with the resistance that it did. We Americans value individual freedom, and mandates violate that freedom. And if we can't live the way we want to live, we're better off dead.

Me personally, I support a double-tier program that has a public/private option, completely optional and thus will cover both spectrums of the market while lowering costs by dividing the burdens.

What will really bankrupt us is picking up the medical bills for 22 million+ illegals.

Imagine how many people will come here to get a free sex change operation before flying back to their country of origin?

If a liberal judge approves of tax payers to pay for sex change operation for incarcerated murders, they won’t have a problem with us footing the bill for illegals.

Since Americans are fatter and sicker than ever, affordable healthcare is not achievable. Until we stop forcing taxpayers to subsidize what is making and keeping Americans sick, things will only get worse and more expensive.
