I have heard Trump haters say it is not, why not?

Today we have, evacuation from a cruise ship in Japan. What is lacking and what should we do?

Liberals support a totalitarian police state, so anything less will be inadequate. CDC seems to doing a great job. Amazing since liberals would rather they spend their time and money on inanimate objects...

You mean Communists, not Liberals. Liberals prefer a lean state where the police have little power.

And Libertarians/Anarchists prefer no state at all. :)

And historically anarchies are always followed by police states and it generally doesn't take long

So, everyone would rather play politics. Keep it classy folks.

So far the US response seems reasonable. Like most nations at as distance from China (mine included) there hasn't been a lot to actually do. Restricting travel from China wasn't strictly necessary, but that doesn't mean it is a bad idea. Quarantining returning US citizens is also sensible.

At this distance it isn't clear how much of the interaction with infected patients is being handled by state authorities (I suppose it is too much to hope someone might actually bring some information to the thread).

The big test will come if the disease starts spreading in the US. After H1N1 & Ebola improved infrastructure was put in place to deal with epidemics. Some of that has faced funding cuts or erosion of personnel. Thus far this hasn't been an issue. Hopefully it will remain that way.

The CDC can only do so much but until we have total control over who enters this country and absolutely everyone here is here legally deadly diseases will always be a threat. Travel restrictions from certain countries has reduced terrorism in the US, under the present circumstances travel from Asia should also be restricted. I would also recommend that Americans traveling in Asia should be tested upon return to the US.

What do we know about Corona virus? Answer that depends on how much you trust the info out of China. Right now deducing from what I have read and heard it seems to be much more contagious than the flu, but doesn't run a higher rate of fatalities than the less virulent flu strains. Most fatalities appear to be among patients with a compromised immune system and from secondary infections like pneumonia. Again this is based on info from the Chinese government and that government keeps a very tight rein on information so take it with a grain of salt.

Nope. A lot of seem to see all that freedom as an opportunity to take any thing they see without asking the person who made it.

Folks seem to have forgotten not long ago liberals swore up and down they weren't socialists. Then Bernie came out of the commie closet and suddenly there literally millions of them. Calling them commies now is just hedging the bet...

Liberals no longer have much by way of real power or influence in the Dem Party any more. Mostly now it is the radicals among the leftists that control the future of the Party. Liberalism is now meaningless.

Do you really think so? Or are you a conservative who demonizes the political opponent?

Liberalism in the sense of classical liberalism is what you have with libertarians. When a Democrat tells you he is a liberal is big government statist who wants to regulate the entire universe to within an inch of its life. What they are is a bunch of control freaks on steroids who can't conceive of the possibility that the universe will do pretty much as it wants and there isn't jack we poor miserable humans can do about it other than learn to duck and dodge and roll with punches. We have proven to be quite good at that sort of thing. That's why we have survived when other species didn't.

Anyone paying attention can see which direction that control and power is drifting. Those now notorious freshmen radicals of the House of Representatives? They are definitely the future of the Dem Party. It's now just a matter of time.

Why are you quoting me (after editing my post, out of context), in your blatant, group insult. @Natty Bumpo ?

Natty, you may want to consider the fact you are violating the PF rules with your continual insults directed toward Trump supporters.
The best resolution and outcome for the Wuhan virus outbreak will come from support from the right as well as the left, not from personal attacks directed at one group or another.
Take your cues from Newsome, Cuomo, Omar, Pressley, and others on the far left that have expressed their support and appreciation for the way President Trump is guiding the American public through this pandemic.

It is for this moment in time but I can foresee the radical lefties break off and form a Sanders like drum circle where they will eventually die of lonesomeness.
I think the real hardliners who have succeeded in drowning Komrad Bernie are scrambling to find a candidate that can bring in votes. Biden, who really resembles the character in Weekend with Bernie, is so shellshocked he struggles to communicate with anyone any more.

They never did. Liberal was what progressives started calling themselves after WWII. This was because they were attached at the hip to Margaret Sanger's eugenics movement and after Hitler's industrial strength eugenics program was revealed to a horrified world at places like Auschwitz, and Dacau the Eugenics Movement became rather unpopular for a while. They are starting to call themselves progressives again now that the institutional memory has withered with the deaths of those who witnessed the horror or of those who lived through it.

One should also note that the term liberal means different things in different country's

I agree. The DNC has been utterly stupid in how they ran their primaries and should have backed Warren or some other candidate other than obviously senile Biden. The only thing keeping their political chances alive against Trump is this Chinese Virus and their efforts to blame him for it. It's not working, of course, but they are trying.

In a crisis people usually flock to the known. In my opinion, Komrad Bernie was never in the mix but the democrat candidates mistake was pandering to Warren and Sanders ravings. Especially with claims like "we gonna take your guns" ( BYW, try that tripe right now where there is not one round of 9mm on the shelves and first time gun buyers are flooding into gun stores), "all banks need to be nationalized", "all corporations are evil and need to be broken up", "I will stop all fracking and eliminate all oil exploration on public land" and the like.
If Bernie thinks he has support, go form a third party and run. If the democrats think Biden is their saviour, God Bless them.

The question, "Is the US response to coranavirus adequate"? is as timely as ever and, now, with the benefit of hindsight, can be better answered.

One such index for objective appraisal is a comparison of government response in the United States and in South Korea, both having had their first cases reported on the same day. The willingness of the latter to take proper measures in timely fashion succeeded in limiting the impact of the pandemic there, as it still expands in the U.S.
