    • Flamebaiting (Rule 3)
    <Rule 3>

To imply that Australia got nothing out of its support for the car industry is just plain wrong. It demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the importance of manufacturing and of the concept of value add, where a manufacturer can take a $2 piece of steel and make a $50 component.

Critics continually carp about the taxpayer subsidies, conveniently ignoring those larger but less-visible subsidies given to the mining and banking sectors.

Australia got a great return on its automotive investment. Under the last car plan, up to $300 million in assistance was available each year to car and parts makers, who employed around 50,000 tier one and tier two workers just a few years ago. This assistance also supported the jobs of many other workers in tier three operations.

Well, yes....in that it was given to a US Company. I read today that it will cost GM $B1.6 AU to exit Australia, NZ and Thailand. It has flogged its Thai manufacturing facility to Great Wall.

Suburu BRZ costs half of what a Corvette does and goes faster and handles better.

It does neither of those actually. It's much slower around a track or in a straight line. Plus it is a different category having back seats.

It was roughly 7 seconds faster around the same track with the same driver.

If you dislike the looks of everything gm I understand completely to each their own but factually I dont believe there is a car that competes with the corvette for the money.

At TWICE the price the vette should be a whole lot faster than the BRZ but it barely beats it.

This is what we call "back pedaling" where a person makes an obviously false statement and then modifies their meaning by changing their quantification after they get called on it thus invalidating any statement made after the first false statement. It's like saying, "yeah but". This kind of stuff is fun to watch.

    Yup!

I did make a mistake about the top speed but NOT about the agility or the FACT that BRZ is far better VALUE for money.

    Mea culpa!

GMC did the same to its European companies. Designed and built past the market, managed from the US, they ran those companies into the ground.
No surprise it happened to Holden, too.

The multinational corporation as it now exists is per se a very evil idea.

They are totally different categories. The brz is a much less refined car as well. I see your difference in gm is rooted in opinion. I cant change your mind but I can tell you your wrong.

The corvette handles better around every track I've seen posts a better slalom and skid pad rating. The corvette is faster 0-to literally any speed. Stops after and out performs the brz in every category. GM sells some very good cars but if you hate them fine but that doesnt mean they dont have good cars.

Value for the money is an opinion.

An OPINION shared by the vast majority of Australians car buyers (96%) who decided that GM was offering far LESS value for money than the other car makers.

If you bash them on there sales being poor do you blame them for pulling out?

Also I'm glad you moved on from a factual argument.

I’d like to see the mining companies exist without govt money- eg Adani.
    PS. And banks.

That you are INCAPABLE of responding WITHOUT puerile ad homs DISQUALIFIES you from any further meaningful responses on this topic as far as I am concerned.

    Have a nice day!
