Question: How are student loans working out for American college students?

    (i.e. It's been a disaster, hasn't it?)

If we cut military spending, maybe that money would be better used paying down national debts, to cut necessary service interest rates on that debt in the future.

Crap choice. You should be referring to South Korea etc. Of course then you'd just be referring to the learning curve and the need to protect infant industries.

They suffered through both. Sounds like you've allowed your right wing nature decide to 'excite yourself' with rent seeking outcome.

Haven't there been threads in the past about how South Korea has an overeducation problem?

Try to be relevant here! The point is simple: the infant industry hypothesis holds. You're free to ramble about other issues as you see fit.

My point is if you want to subsidize industry, subsidize the industry (maybe even research too), don't subsidize college for the workers.
If the jobs in industry are there, the workers will follow.

If we are having to pay for training for the workers, maybe the demand for those workers is actually not that strong.

The industry should be made to pay for the education themselves, if they really want more educated workers. Ask the industry and see what they say about this proposal. That should be revealing.
They're all for it as long as it's the middle class that's made to pick up the tab.

That is a nonsense though. Try and justify that remark with economic research. Good luck.

    Important question:
If we allocate money to college education, who should pay for it?

How should we decide who is taxed for that and where those taxes should be allocated from?

Should people who did not get this free public education be made to pay for those that did?

Should those who do not, for some reason, take this freebie, be offered something else of equal value in lieu of a college education?
(Maybe a government managed retirement investment account, for example?)

Should the ones who take this free college money be enrolled in an automatic tax pool and be required to later pay it off, as a group of those who originally accepted this payment? So the rest of the taxpayers don't end up on the hook for it.

I have looked at the statistics. You should as well.

The average cost of a postsecondary degree at a state university in the US is $14K a year!

Just how-in-hell will Uncle Sam be getting the people who REALLY NEED that advanced degree into a post-secondary schooling when their parents are earning below the Poverty Threshold income of $25K a year? How?!?

See here: Map of states percentage of population 25 years old with Advanced Degree in 2009:
Barely half the population has an Associate or Bachelor level degree! That's just not good-enough as regards the Information Age that is upon us. The number should be closer to 90% ... !

PS1: But where does Uncle Sam spend most of his money obtained from Taxable Income? Not on national education - which obtains barely 7%! (See graphic previously posted above.)
    PS2:
Now go ask Donald Dork why the DoD gets the overwhelmingly larger portion of the Discretionary Income pie!

You're binging on One-liner nonsense. (What China does today is great for China. What GB did is history. It aint working any more and those at university-level today are madder than hell about it!)

What planet do you live on? Do drop in when you get back to earth with reasoned rebuttal ...

    MOREOVER!

    I found this note startling:
    From here:

Makes one wonder what historically is the reason for such a dramatic difference in the above scores ... ?

I believe you are completely out of touch with reality.

Numerous discussions have taken place about this, which you both can find online and in this forum. (Although it's really hard trying to search this forum for anything)

You're not even going to get half the young people 4-year degrees by the time they are 24, and you can waste a lot of money, time, effort, and create crushed expectations trying.

Sure, maybe in a country like Germany, if you could go back in a time machine and help Hitler realize his dream of selective breeding and eugenics, you might be able to reach a goal of 60 percent.

Sorry, the reality is there is a big share of the population that is simply not "college material".

You refuse to understand what I am saying.

So, here it goes One Last Time:
*The purpose of education is general. It helps a country to be run more effectively. Thus avoiding mistakes that (at present) cause economic pitfalls.
*Whatever their desire, the acquisition of general knowledge (beyond reading and righting and knowing how to multiply/divide numbers) is a positive virtue in allowing people to make the right decisions. This requires "advanced education" beyond secondary-schooling!
*How people chose to pursue their lives is ALWAYS their decision. We call that "freedom-of-choice".
*But that they should do so with an education better than the Secondary Level is a sine-qua-non of most civilizations in this new Information Age of ours.
    *Whyzzat? Because "information"
ipso-facto is the necessary ingredient towards making "informed decisions" - and life itself has become little more than making decisions on a daily basis.

And I'll bet the above is wasted on you ...

What is it with the far right and their obsession with eugenics?
