If he were to get 35-40% of the delegates, the DNC has "fair" reason to take if away IF the other 60-65% of delegates agreed on a single alternative. Of course, the public would not see it as fair at all, and there would by riots.

There was quite a lot of talk at the 2016 Republican convention about having delegates "vote their conscience" rather than sticking with their pledge to vote the same as the popular vote. All but a very few stuck with their pledge.

The DNC has 1000 pledged delegates plus 200 who are not pledged to any candidate.

I really don't know what they would do if Bernie gets in there with more than everyone else, but not a majority. But how could we take it from the vote-winner? That would be crazy: we bitch about the electoral college, but we screw over our own vote winner? I think they have to go with Bernie and just pray for a hail mail, or a Dem Senate.

But if he earns, say 40% or even 49% of the delegates, that means that 51% voted for someone else other than Bernie. A plurality is not a majority choice. Of course Bernie and his supporters would not see it that way.

I'm not a supporter, and I see it his way. Now this is assuming he's the clear plurality winner. If it's 40% Bernie and 38% Pete, or something like that, then they could take it from him. But if it's 40% Bernie, and everyone else in the teens, the voters have obviously spoken, and Bernie should head the ticket.

It means that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton totally screwed them up as a party.

A friend at the Biden watch party in Nevada tonight asked if he is confident Sanders can be stopped.

Biden’s answer: “It’s going to be hard to do it in the primary so it may have to happen at the convention.”

First indication ex-VP expects a brokered convention?

Correction: The CNN article I posted earlier indicated there are 1000 pledged and 200 unpledged delegates. Perhaps that was just an example for "easy math" to generally explain the process.

I see elsewhere a Democratic candidate must receive support from a majority of pledged delegates — at least 1,991 of the total 3,979 pledged delegates.

If they give they take it away from Bernie, the someone else they shove in there will lose the general and that is preferable to these corporate owned Dems. At that point, the party deserves to be burnt down and they will lose a generation of voters.

    And out come the knives

Mayor Pete Calls Out Bernie Sanders By Name, ‘Toxic Tone of our Politics’ in Nevada Speech

    ...
“But before we rush to nominate Senator Sanders in our one shot to take on this president,” Buttigieg continued, “let us take a sober look for what is at stake for our party, for our values, and for those with the most to lose.”

“Senator Sanders believes in an inflexible, ideological revolution that leaves out most Democrats, not to mention most Americans,” Buttigieg said. He went on by ripping Sanders for his position on Medicare for all, his “vision of capitalism as the root of all evil,” and his calls for revolution “that would go beyond reform and reorder the economy in ways that most Democrats, not to mention most Americans, don’t support.”

CNN uses “AK” as the abbreviation for Arkansas.

“AK” is Alaska. “AR” is Arkansas.

They don’t have a clue about the U.S. beyond the solid blue states.

That's an issue with too many candidates, who have no chance to winning, staying in the contest far too long and fracturing the "moderate" vote. Some would say that Sanders won 49% and that "the moderates" won 51%. You know that is how the party will try to justify it IF they dump Bernie at a brokered convention. That's how Republicans who were encouraging faithless electors justified their viewpoint, and that was with Trump clearly having more that 50% of pledged electors outright.

Hahahaha! They don't realize that the Dem Party stopped representing moderates over twenty years ago?

Chris had better watch it. The radical Left will turn on him in a heartbeat. He could end up looking for work . . . at Fox News.

More like 25% - 75%...but that 25% sure is loud and turns out to vote. The 75% aren't terribly inspiring.

She just wasn't radical enough. She used too much common sense. The Dem Party turned their back on moderates a long, long time ago.

Good point; she seems like the sort who would do something like that. Clearly though the poison must be helping him to think since he's one of the few media leftists capable of understanding that Bernie simply cannot beat Trump.

Scream, cry, smear, impeach and call anyone in opposition to their views a "Russian Asset". Doesn't seem to be working so far, but they haven't figured out a Plan B yet.
