westerners. china india and africa have little to no role in this so yes, the entire international community is opposed to assads regime but due to putinand assad being very close the westerners are too scared to take serious action.

Please tell us what acts of terror Assad has engaged in - and then compare and contrast with Obama.

I noticed you completely ignored any consideration for the people of Syria - Are you claiming that Al Qaeda is not a terrorist group ? - because that is who the people of Syria were fighting against.

The USA under Bush warned Iraq to leave Kuwait. When Iraq failed to comply
    the allies drove Iraq out.
    It's as simple as that.
War depresses the economy - your taxes must pay for it. America has lost both
"blood and treasure" so nations like China take comfort in the weakening of its
adversary. Endless involvement in other people's wars has harmed America.
And the worse part is that other nations, such as Europe, have not stepped up
to the mark (think Bosnia for instance.) Trump is right (for once) that other nations
need to foot more of the bill and stop bludging on America.

When Americans hate their companies (ie Sanders hate for the pharmaceuticals)
and hate their economy and hate their culture and hate their politics - then what
do you replace these with? Japanese companies? German pharmas? Chinese
    money? Marxist govt? Russian military?

    from wiki

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has stated that at least 10 European citizens were tortured by the Assad government while detained during the Syrian Civil War, potentially leaving Assad open to prosecution by individual European countries for war crimes.[157] Stephen Rapp, the United States Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues, has argued that the crimes allegedly committed by Assad are the worst seen since those of Nazi Germany.[158] In March 2015, Rapp further stated that the case against Assad is "much better" than those against Slobodan Milošević of Serbia or Charles Taylor of Liberia, both of whom were indicted by international tribunals.[159]

In a February 2015 interview with the BBC, Assad described accusations that the Syrian Arab Air Force used barrel bombs as "childish", stating that his forces have never used these types of "barrel" bombs and responded with a joke about not using "cooking pots" either.[160] The BBC Middle East editor conducting the interview, Jeremy Bowen, later described Assad's statement regarding barrel bombs as "patently not true".[161][162]

Nadim Shehadi, the director of The Fares Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies, stated that "In the early 1990s, Saddam Hussein was massacring his people and we were worried about the weapons inspectors," and claimed that "Assad did that too. He kept us busy with chemical weapons when he massacred his people."[163][164]

In September 2015, France began an inquiry into Assad for crimes against humanity, with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius stating "Faced with these crimes that offend the human conscience, this bureaucracy of horror, faced with this denial of the values of humanity, it is our responsibility to act against the impunity of the killers".[165]

In February 2016, head of the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria, Paulo Pinheiro, told reporters: "The mass scale of deaths of detainees suggests that the government of Syria is responsible for acts that amount to extermination as a crime against humanity." The UN Commission reported finding "unimaginable abuses", including women and children as young as seven perishing while being held by Syrian authorities. The report also stated: "There are reasonable grounds to believe that high-ranking officers—including the heads of branches and directorates—commanding these detention facilities, those in charge of the military police, as well as their civilian superiors, knew of the vast number of deaths occurring in detention facilities ... yet did not take action to prevent abuse, investigate allegations or prosecute those responsible".[166]

In March 2016, the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs led by New Jersey Rep. Chris Smith called on the Obama administration to create a war crimes tribunal to investigate and prosecute violations "whether committed by the officials of the Government of Syria or other parties to the civil war".[167]

In April 2017, there was a sarin chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun that killed more than 80 people. The attack prompted US President Donald Trump to order the US military to launch 59 missiles at a Syrian airbase.[168] Several months later, a joint report from the United Nations and international chemical weapons inspectors found the attack was the work of the Assad regime.[24]

In April 2018, an alleged chemical attack occurred in Douma, prompting the U.S. and its and allies to accuse Assad of violating international laws and initiating the 2018 bombing of Damascus and Homs. Both Syria and Russia have refuted the involvement of the Syrian government at this time.[169][170]

In June 2018, Germany's chief prosecutor issued an international arrest warrant for one of Assad's most senior military officials, Jamil Hassan.[171] Hassan is the head of Syria's powerful Air Force Intelligence Directorate. Detention centers run by Air Force Intelligence are among the most notorious in Syria, and thousands are believed to have died because of torture or neglect. Charges filed against Hassan claim he had command responsibility over the facilities and therefore knew of the abuse. The move against Hassan marked an important milestone of prosecutors trying to bring senior members of Assad's inner circle to trial for war crimes.

In June 2019, United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael Mulroy stated that the United States “will respond quickly and appropriately,” if the regime uses chemical weapons again. He added that Bashar al-Assad has done more than any other to destabilize the region by "murdering his own people" and that both Russia and the Syrian regime have shown no concern for the suffering of the Syrian people creating one of the "worst humanitarian tragedies in history".[172]

What is your point and what does it have to do America's criminal record?

How many times must I explain to you what the Military-Industrial Complex is all about?

Again ..... How many times must I explain to you what the Military-Industrial Complex is all about?

What the hell are you talking about?

Never mind Trump. Do you know nothing about the Mafia and their "protection racket"?

Only Americans think in terms of "hate". We don't use the word over here (or any other 'one-of-two extremes') because we do not hate anything and we see life and the world in the full spectrum of colour. The U.S. sees only black and white.

    Yes, YOU hate.
Not sure what this "military industrial complex" is about. Does Russia have something similar?
It was said that America HAD a "military industrial complex" but that the Soviet Union WAS a
    "military industrial complex."
Sounds like all clichés to me.
America has a "criminal record" ?? You from what, Germany? France? Russia? China?
    Criminal COMPARED TO WHAT?

I will tell you how America has a criminal record:
America sat back and did nothing when millions of lives were extinguished on the battlefield
    of France and Belgium.
America did nothing when Hitler invaded Poland, France and nearly took England.
America deserted its allies in Indo China and allowed the red Nazis to take over.
America allowed Communists to take China, Venezuela, Cuba etc.. Over 150,000,000 people
died under Communist and for the most part America did little to stop it - save for Vietnam and
    NATO.
And just as bad, America had no "military industrial complex" when Japan struck - just three
carriers and aging aircraft which were no match for Japan. And soon America will be no match
    for China's imperial ambitions.

No mention in the Guardian and MSM of the genocide of Christians by ISIS and Al Nusra. The deaths averaged 300 Christians a day, mostly in Syria. These and other minorities is who Assad was protecting. I guess their lives were inconsequential to the 'powers' that be.

I think the US changed in 1963 the year Pres. Kennedy was shot. After that we lost our moral compass completely, and entered the Vietnam war, eliminated prayers from schools, passed Roe vs. Wade which was nothing but a racist attempt to stop the rising black population and had nothing to do with women's rights.

We are not the same country as we were. As for calling China imperialistic, that's funny considering we are known as the 'Empire'. Not that I like China's system and its indifference towards the lives of its people, but that might change in time. China has never been an aggressive nation.

Just people who have ingested the same Establishment Propaganda Narrative - come in all sure of themselves - until they have to back up their claim - in context :)

Assad is no Saint - name one in the ME that is - we sent him "suspects" for extraordinary rendition after 911 ... and good choice - as he is used to dealing with this kind of extremism - look at the demographic .. we bomb from afar - he has to deal with these extremists on a daily basis - but yup - just like in China - the one rule is don't badmouth the Chief.

Is it any different in the land of El Saud ?

Then one day - you have an extremist Islamist Insurgency - led by Al Qaeda and spawn - taking up arms against the state - getting arms support from numerous nations and boom - within 1.5 yrs they take over most of Syria.

This was a plot - thick as thieves - the planning of which was a long time in coming. Qatar was furious over the pipeline block. El Saud - favoring the US - was not happy either but any reason to arm a movement to get rid of the evil "secularism" in Syria is reason for them to join in. Turkey had many reasons the Kurds.. and a new found love of Islamist ideology - and some of the aforementioned.

Also in the background - Assad's decision was favoring the Russia/Iran consortia rather than the US/Gulf States/Israel consortia.

Well technically we were already in Vietnam before Kennedy was killed. Roe vs. Wade was not "passed". It was a flawed Supreme Court decision (at best) though I don't consider it a racist attempt to stop the rise of the black population (though no doubt it did).

We can state many theories as to why wars start. One might say that wars start because the gap between rich and poor is big. Why do you think the war started in Donetsk? How big was the gap between the miners and the administration?

Every war has its own complicated reasons. But here some fans of conspiracy theories simplify all to absurd fantasies, that there is some noname evil US politicians, who organizes wars across the Globe with the aim to get profit.
As it for war in Ukraina, that main reason here is revanchism of Russia and Russian nationalism.

When renewable, decentralized energy is readily available, the middle east will no longer obsess the world. The resistance by overwhelmingly profitable petro-industries poisons us all, politically, financially and morally.

Assad is recognized as the legitimately elected president of Syria by the UN. It is not recognized by the outlaw regimes of F.,UK.,US., Turkey, Israel, KSA., Qatar and Jordan. Those outlaw nations are in Syria illegally, and committing major crimes against humanity under the pretense of fighting terrorists - while in actuality, they are aiding and abetting them in genocide and other inhumane acts.

The U.S. was fighting Muslims decades before the first oil well in the world was drilled or Jews started returning to Palestine.

I think the gap in Ukraine was between the industrial and wealthy Eastern Donbas area, and the poor Western Galicia area of Ukraine. Also there are extreme cultural differences between them since the east and south were always part of Russia, while the West fell under Poland and the Pope, and were then taken over by the Austrian/Hungarian Empire.

It was probably the Austrians that made the Galicians in the west feel inferior about their Slavic/Russian heritage, otherwise why would they resent and look down on their Russian brethren in the East?
