For those wondering how you get an estimate of 100k based on 5 confirmed cases, the reason, according to Dr. Acton, is that Ohio confirmed the other day that 2 cases of community spread exist. And when that happens, according to her, it can be assumed that 10% of the population is infected. Ohio’s population is around 11,000,000. So, that is where the 100k came from. Whether that 100k is a fair estimate, who knows? We certainly won’t know until we do a better job of testing. This also means that it is very likely that nearly every country is under-reporting.

Also she stood next to the Republican Governor while she made this declaration (and his tweet with the same estimate has not been removed), so please do not think that this is partisan. Similarly, for those who think this means that COVID-19 is not as lethal as reported, consider the possibility that when epidemiologists are able to look at this outbreak through the lens of history, they will reclassify alot of the deaths currently attributed to the flu as being caused by COVID-19.

This virus is serious. It is coming to you.

Prepare accordingly by researching the virus, engaging in social distancing, incorporating better health practices in your everyday life, and ensuring that you and your family could quarantine for 2-3 weeks without relying on deliveries or trips to the grocery store and pharmacy.

Hmm 134,000 world wide but Ohio has 100,000. Ok that sounds reasonable.

    Confirmed vs Estimates.

How many tests have been conducted in the entirety of the US?

the issue is when China have few hundreds case in early jan, they close off 1/3 of the country, and quarantine most of the country, everyone was wearing mask, everywhere was spraying disinfect chemical(street, school, stores, etc etc). we haven't done that yet. if the spread index is same as flu, which usually infect around 10-45million american per year, then its possible we have few million people are infected. especially alot ppl only shows mild symptoms and dont go see doc.

not according WHO and many other foreign medical expert that was in china and wuhan for over several weeks and months. the fact is they did lack down part of country, unless you have prove they didn't. even then they have 90k+ infected, some ppl think its more because china under report the infection number? so if they did that and still has 90k+ how many could be infected here without any lock down.

Dr. Who? Some people will say or do anything for publicly or money. Think about al the so called doctors that push opioids. Many medical weed doctors have questionable degrees from Caribbean med schools. Some states allow them to practice but they aren't board certified. They don't even practice medicine when they can make $200,000 a day giving out medical weed certificates that can be had by answering a few questions on-line or at an event where 200-300 people wait in line and everyone who wants a med card gets one.

She based her estimate on this, "There are 52 people under investigation and 333 under health supervision." So it's confirmed vs. WAG (wild ass guess).

How many tests HAVE been conducted in the entirety of the US?

Or that math where 327 million dollars would give every person in the US a million dollars. Liberals do that "new math" kinda thing lately.

Some of the few liberals can add and multiply. It's the Progressives who don't understand basic arithmetic much less economics. What Bloomjerk spent on advertising, $500 million divided equally between 327 million people would amount to about $1.50, not $1 million.

    Well, no.

So few tests have done, the thousands of people who have had pneumonia and other similar deaths have very likely had some die from COVAD.

The people who were dead and then tested was almost accidental. Some sources have claimed the flu season was higher deaths than usual. Given that testing in the USA was very limited until last week and even now still limited, the likelihood of deaths over COVAD that were mistakenly attributed to flu is a likely error.

It started in an place with 11 million people crammed together into a small area.
By the time they noticed a problem, quarantine was pissing in the wind

330 million ,approximately, tests would need to be done to know for sure. Why go from assumption?

So your side is guessing again, a little common sense would probably help right now. You also very well know the deal with tests, ours have to be fda approved vs private knock offs that haven't been tested. To be quiet honest, this is like the flu virus and 80% have mild symptoms and wouldn't even think of getting tested. Tests are out there now if you need to get tested you can.

My side? This comes from the Republican Governor of Ohio. Seriously.

COVID-19 is objectively worse than the flu. It is more lethal, spreads easier, and there are no vaccines, antivirals, or antibodies currently.

    Please. Please. Please.

    Take this seriously.

Not really. The census works by sampling 10% of the population and then using those to make educated guesses about the population.

A similar level of testing would yield a similar ability to make an educated guess.

BS it didn't come from the Governor...and a statistical model is only as good as the assumptions inputted in the model. Everyone should take it serious but also realistic. 134k in the WORLD somehow means OHIO will have 100k affected. Intelligence is alluding us right now.

Just a correction, the doctor claimed 1%, not 10%, and that is where the 100k comes from.
