So, to avoid getting sick, I must stop living. Not much of choice, is it.

Yeah social-distancing will lessen your likelihood of catching COVID-19, just as not driving a car will listen your likihood of being in acciden—just like not swimming takes your risk of drowning down to zero—and just like locking yourself in your house will lower your risk of flu, colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, strep throat, muggings, rape and murder. Big deal. The living live despite the risks.

But 1/3 of humanity will get it

And lets' lowball that at 2 billion

20% of that is 400,000,000 who will have significant symptoms

And 1% of them die, 4 millions, over the next year

That's not horrendous, but it's not chopped liver.

Nobody said this was the new Black Death, but it's worthy of attention.

1% death rate, no one ever said most would die

the thing is, 1% is a lot and they are worried about over taxing the medical system, so thus need to stagger the pandemic as much as possible, thus trying to slow the spread, can't stop it, only slow it

once we have a vaccine, that will slow the spread for future years as this mutates year after year going forward hopefully

Trump lied to us, said was gonna go from 15 to zero... it's gonna get worse before it gets better - just tell the truth and don't panic

agree, but good were trying to slow the spread

maybe after this year as most will get it, next year our bodies defenses will be more adapted to it if it doesn't mutate too much

The percentage dying is now 7% on the Worldometer site. It was 6% for a long time but seems to be going up. WHO is of course concerned about the lack of action taken by countries such as the US. I believe the UK is now not taking necessary steps to stop it the quickest with the least deaths. We should be shutting schools and shops and doing all the things which Italy is doing Now. The Government apparently knows this but has juggled it with the likelihood of people going crazy doing nothing for a long time due to their belief that we will not peak till May/June and so appears to have decided to let it spread more rather than possible civil unrest.

Wot have Jews got to do with it? If you want to mention
a race, mentioned the Chinese who spread it.
And they did the SARS thing too - and the bubonic
plague that killed 200 million people when there weren't
    that many people around.

I have no idea who the HHS is - Corporate planning perhaps. The real rate of death of those who are known to have caught the virus is currently 7% - that differs from the WHO expected eventual death rate of 3.4%

Your rate 0.1% is the top rate for flue which varies between 0.1% and 0.01%

Where's your link? I recall a total estimate of 0.1-1% from them, based on nothing really. Fact is it's unknown. Sure the 3-4% is inflated because not everybody gets tested. The cruise ship outbreak was the most controlled environment with many tested, and there the mortality was closer to 1%. But pretty high for the older ones. Basically this mostly spares kids but can kill 5-10% of older folks.
