    I grew up in Portland and my sisters live in Beaverton. They don't go into Portland unless it is absolutely necessary. What a shame.

    You mean the overinflated real estate prices?

    It's the same home, but mortgage payments are three times higher there.
    = increase GDP

    Plus excessive overpopulation = more people, "more GDP"

    that never happened, amazon never intended to set up shop on long island, although bezo did try to strongarm new yorkers into giving him free real estate, no taxes and pass his utility costs onto the residents...

    best & smartest decision was to tell him to f*ck off in true new york fashion...

    they have a narrow view through fogged lenses...

    forcing all residents to foot the bill for amazon's utilities, force them to pay higher property taxes so amazon wouldn't have to, nah, that's just plain bad business...

    and btw, most those jobs were for laborers at minimum wage...

    There is a proverb in my native language, a quote of Bossuet, it's a little bit hard to translate, but basically it is :
    "God laugh of people who complain about negative events and in the same time love the causes of those negative events".

    If this is true, then God is probably constantly laughing for a few centuries, and will continue to do so.

    Yea, NY Governor Cuomo thought the same.
    "I'll change my name to Amazon Cuomo if that's what it takes," Cuomo told reporters on Monday. "Because it would be a great economic boost."

    According to NY1, Cuomo reportedly met with Amazon executives in Seattle two weeks ago.

    In the request Amazon promised 50,000 jobs and $5 billion in investment to the new host city. Nearly every major metro area in the US threw its hat in the ring.
