They might need it because there have been reports from inside China that the crematoriums have had trouble keeping up with demand.

Oh, and get a load of this:

Ya! Just what everyone needs right now - an avian flu outbreak...

not the point of the article in the op...

what it's proving is that we can not help ourselves in times of crisis, because we depend on other nations to supply us with our meds & equipment... all due to globalization...

twist away if you must, but that's the truth...

we need to go back to being self sufficient

It isnt just the dems! Where did the idea of Offshoring come from ? The GOP of bush senior and big banking and big corp.

Besides making the rich richer it would help to kill unions.

Clinton moved his party to join the GOP in offshoring our manufacturing.

Working republican voters voted to cut their own throats for decades along with working dems. Even those with higher IQs!

The Spanish flu beginning in January of 1918 during WWI didn't begin in Spain and no one knows where it started with any smidgeon of certainty. Spain was a neutral country, and so the press would not be censored by the wartime authorities if they blamed Spain, which they all did. What spread it was increased & faster travel, the troop movements, the deprivations of war, and ignorance. The Spanish flu was spread at the speed of a transatlantic motor vessel or steam vessel, rather than the speed of the sailing vessel previously, and by the speed of the motorized vehicle rather than the speed of the horse in the past.

It was a very different globe with the pipe dream of the League of Nations and the UN not yet sprung on the world.

In 1918 there was no hope, zero hope, for a treatment or immunization for the Spanish flu.

Nobody knew what a virus was in 1918. In 1892 it was discovered that finely filtered sap from diseased tobacca would infect healthy tobacca and it was assumed that the liquid sap was the disease agent, and it was named a virus. In 1926 it was discovered that the virus agent was not a liquid, but particles. Only with the invention of the electron microscope in 1931 did the beginning of the concept of what a virus is begin to take an accurate and useable definition. In 1935 it was discovered that viruses contained RNA and soon after it became known that certain viruses invaded and killed bacteria. Initial research began with the purpose of developing viruses that could invade the bacteria in humans to kill the terrible, untreatable bacterial infections in humans -- but this was abandoned with the advent of penicillin, the great miracle drug.

The present adverse effect of viruses on human populations has more to do with the first causes of the very limited state of knowledge in virology, and the increased speed and volume of human travel -- rather than anything else.

But in the USA the abandonment of the manufacturing of medical and healthcare supplies to other countries within the process of globalization has put the American people in grave danger, and may be the ultimate cause of the death of many. The same applies to defense and basic industries.

The conditions during the black plague in medieval times were so different than the present that I'll attempt no comparisons.

It's been happening for the last 4 years.

That was the point of reducing corporate tax rates to be globally competitive and his tariffs with China.

Do you think the CIA/Trump is going to come straight out and tell us the Wuhan virus was man made in the Wuhan Institute of Virology that specializes in this type of research and somehow got loose into the general population?
Probably not, but they will likely tell us through someone far down the chain that it probably came from the Chinese habit of eating bats sold in a wet market in Wuhan. Never mind the fact they have been doing that very thing for centuries.
    Coincidences happen you know.
Yep, I am on the edge but when it comes to anything China, I have a built-in mistrust. I do like their wall though.

Trump's job is to keep the country calm. Follow the advice of the CDC who hav been giving daily briefings for weeks. Stop politicizing this virus and do something to help others.
    Blaiming Trump is ridiculous.

Maybe rethinking globalization means not being so dependent on international trade, especially with one trading partner that threatens to withhold lifesaving medical supplies.

International trade is a good thing. Too much of a good thing can be bad.

Trump has made extensive use of Chinese steel and aluminum in his real estate projects.

So what's good for the President is good for the rest of the American people.

    No ?

Trade with China has generally benefited the U.S. But there are problems:

    1) We're too reliant on them in key industries where we have no production (medical supplies, etc.).
    2) They steal our technology and intellectual property.
    3) Their rules for American companies entering and operating in China are unfair by any standard.
    4) They subsidize industries to create an unfair trade situation.

Trump is trying to address this. No one else has.

    No.

Trump is the epitome of hypocrisy.

Trump's only goal was to become the most famous man in the world and make money with his status.

One would have to be incredibly naive to believe that Trump cares about the workers of this country.

He is a whistleblower who exposes illegals and engages them in his businesses. He complains about dumping by China when he buys their steel in his real estate projects.

It's a shame it takes a virus for more people to realize the benefits of America First, and ultimately World First. But at least that's the slightest bit of good to come from this.

This is the reason for lowering the corporate tax(then the highest tax rate in the world) and we need to study the cumulative effects of the Income Tax, along with the State Tax. I've argued that in lieu of the State Tax, federal Washington could fund more of the national capacities(water/drilling, etc) across the union thus making state governments cheaper(since they don't have a federal reserve of their own.)

My great friend, after dealing with the first great global crisis of the 20th century, did the world fundamentally rethink its dependence on the US too? :xd:

I highly recommend renowned American historian John M. Barry's articles and encourage everyone to read them all.

The toll of history’s worst epidemic (the Horrific 1918 Flu) surpasses all the military deaths in World War I and World War II combined. And it may have begun in the United States.

    https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/journal-plague-year-180965222/

Kudos in advance to those who do, and thanks to Mr. John M. Barry for writing his outstanding and informative articles.

The article brings up an interesting point on the relationship between WHO and China. This must certainly be analyzed in more detail. Much of the economic calamity we are seeing is based on information provided by WHO. We know China lies, but they are also the greatest beneficiaries of economic calamity, they were already screwed...
