Why does Russia, population 146 million, have fewer coronavirus cases than Luxembourg?

    https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/03/21/europe/putin-coronavirus-russia-intl/index.html

I’m going to spare you the BS explanation from CNN about closed borders with China and testing.
    Here is the real reason:
Russia has elections in about a month from now. Citizens are to confirm Pootins term reset. As soon as polls close in Russia, the government will start disclosing real figures and place everyone to quarantine similar to house arrest. This will be done to stop the spread of Coronavirus and as a side benefit will allow Pootin to put down any objections from citizens who don’t agree with the naked usurpation of power.

I think Russia will be the epicenter at the end of next month.
Russian authorities might make it even worse to ask for relief from sanctions to help country recover.
Mark my words and let’s see what happens by April 30th.

Good point on that election, even though it isn't really necessary for Putin to bother lying to his people, since he's basically running unopposed. Those who try to run against him tend to end up dead or in prison.

You're most likely right, here in France the government lied extensively about the big C, probably because they didn't planned anything, and also for money, but they made the economic crisis just worse.
Luxemburg is not that far of the most infected region of France. I didn't understood why the germans took so much time to react when the most infected region were their neighbours.

    Exactly.

Russia is LYING about the actual numbers. Case closed.

Because every state in Germany (there are 16 of them) has quite a lot of political autonomy. Those areas that are closer to France acted on their own because they are allowed to and wanted to. Unlike France, Germany is very decentralised and it simply isn't reported in foreign media when a small German state that hardly anybody outside Germany has every heard of starts to regulate things.

As far as Russia is concerned, others already said it, Putin's official numbers cannot be trusted.

Well, I remember that Russia closed its border crossing with China early in the epidemic. Then, there is a fact that the point of entry to China is in the middle of Siberia, so few if any people were around to catch coronavirus.

So many idiots with their cretinous ideas are around... I mean not all but some people in this thread. Voting of April 22 will be delayed soon. As well as the special temporary hospital for 500 patients near Moscow will be ready in a month. Thus it's clear the authorities expect the peak of pandemia on the late April - early May.

While they in Italy and in the USA told jokes about Chinese food traditions, Russian health authority bodies learned the experience of China, Korea, Hongkong etc. The result is well seen now.

    And by the way:

On March 20 Russia - a country of 146 million people - has done 143 thousand tests for COVID-2019, the United States (325 million people) - about 104 thousand tests. Source: https://ourworldindata.org/covid-testing

So, which country will be the epicenter? Think about it.

Possibly lower population density, and fewer ties to the rest of Europe, those may be two important factors.

Luxembourg, on the other hand, is very interconnected with the rest of Europe, and there is a lot of back and forth movement of Chinese tourists and business people to Europe.

It hit Italy first because Northern Italy had all those Chinese leather workers from Wuhan. Then it quickly spread to France and Germany, and Luxembourg is in the middle of that.

Russia, even though it shares a long border with China, that land is actually pretty remote, very few people out there. (The vast majority of Russia's population and economic activity is in the West) And due to Russia being less wealthy, there is actually relatively little movement of Chinese and Russians back and forth between the two countries.

An additional factor could be lower quality of healthcare, they are not so able to quickly identify. Many of Russia's hospitals in Siberia are decaying and in bad shape.

And Russia has a distinct advantage given its strict tourist visa policies. Furthermore, once this hit, Russia deported a lot of Chinese tourists as a precaution.

I was in Russia last week. Everything seemed mostly normal.

Russia sending medical equipment and supplies to Italy and Cuba is sending doctors to Italy, to aid in their struggle against the virus.

Could go either way. Its reasonable to suspect a suppression of numbers from Russia, especially with an election near. Its also reasonable to accept that isolating themselves asap slowed the infection rate.

    Time will tell.

There's probably hundreds of cases....if not thousands in Mafialand. Putinka runs most media outlets....and dare anyone disclose true #s .
You can't tell me that with their abysmal health system there are few cases.

Seems you're in Mafialand a lot.....you should just admit you live there....LOL.

Everything "seemed mostly" normal. There's nothing really normal in Muscovia.

So when you start having the gasps for air we'll know all's well in Moskolia....ROFL.

Sure....a so called country with decaying hospitals, stellar 63 yr old age longevity, some of the highest HIV cases in the world, along with heavy smokers and drinkers.

Yeah, I'm thinking when/if **** hits the fan with Covid in Muscovia....I'll remember your little posting here.

Btw....US pop higher than 325 mil...more like 335....or if you factor in all the illegals....moskali transplants included probably closer to 360.

You should better to take care about yourself. Because you are old and you are at risk.
Maybe China would send you aid and maybe would not. Looks like you don't have any other hope.

Why does Russia, population 146 million, have fewer coronavirus cases than Luxembourg?

For the same reason people still believe that Schiff has evidence Trump colluded with Russia. Ignorance Ignorance Ignorance

    Two possible reasons:
    - Russia is far more isolated from the world than other countries.
    - The Kremlin lies as usual.

    I’ve wondered myself.

It will be interesting to see what developes. According to Jeanette, Alexa, and Eleuthera —Russia was saved by Putin’s brilliant mind, his altruistic soul, his religious devotion, and his loving heart. Oh, if only Russia could share Putin with the rest of mankind. But we refuse to let him go...besides, he refuses to leave. The man is so pure, he’d sacrifice the human race to save the Russian people. What a man.

Thank the saints for Putin, or humanity would be lost forever. Well, that’s what Putin’s minions believe.

Of course, if we lived in a truly free capitalist world, we wouldn’t need tyrants like Putin, or pragmatic dogmatists like Trump, we’d be populate by free minds like Salk, Fleming, Pasteur, Curie, Ford, Reynolds, Edison, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Jobs, Gates, and many, many more such souls.

In a truly capitalist world, not the pig slop of mixed permissions, bureaucratic bunglings, and despot proclamations strangling our lives that we have today; no, we’d be prepared to handle a virus, there’d be no hospital bed shortages, and there would be no smashing of the economy.

Fewer people flying around in Asia, most likely. They could be under-reporting as well, but in general such diseases spread fastest in countries with poor diets and lots of poor people combined with high levels of international travel. There are always exceptions that confuse the issues but generally it will be countries with a lot of travelers who get hit first. Japan and South Korea also have populations that get on board with government programs, and have very high citizen participation rates in such cases as epidemics. Try avoiding rich people and college students and other demographics that tend to travel to Asia and associate with those who do. I don't see this virus sweeping through any ghettos here yet.

Iran and Italy fit the profile, lots of traffic between them and Red China.

Just a guess, in any case, until a study is made by a reputable source.
