Then you know your statement “Only in America.” is incorrect as much of your quote could be attributed to most of those nations.

FEARLESS TOM COTTON ON THE WUHAN CORONAVIRUS AND THE ECONOMY
    [IMG]
Our friend Sen. Tom Cotton has been at the forefront of discussions about the Wuhan coronavirus and how we should respond to it. We posted his powerful denunciation of Democrats for their attempt to hold the coronavirus relief bill hostage to a wish list of pet Democratic programs having essentially nothing to do with responding to the virus. Sen. Cotton has also led the charge to hold China accountable for its unwillingness to report honestly about the virus when it began taking its toll. Had China been honest, the virus wouldn’t have spread the way it did.

Cotton has in mind making ourselves far less dependent on China for the production of key items like medicines. We would be well advised to do this even if there had been no Wuhan coronavirus.

    Cotton tweeted:

This is the stark truth: we have to arrest the spread of the China virus to get the economy back on its feet & get life back to something like normal.

Lynne Cheney has tweeted to the same effect:

There will be no normally functioning economy if our hospitals are overwhelmed and thousands of Americans of all ages, including our doctors and nurses, lay dying because we have failed to do what’s necessary to stop the virus.

There was also this from Sen. Lindsey Graham:

Try running an economy with major hospitals overflowing, doctors and nurses forced to stop treating some because they can’t help all, and every moment of gut-wrenching medical chaos being played out in our living rooms, on social media, and shown all around the world. There is no functioning economy unless we control the virus.

These statements remind us that, just as the state of the economy affects public health (a severe economic down turn will cause some deaths), the state of public health affects the economy. Right now, the state of public health seems, as Tom Cotton says, inimical to getting the economy back on its feet.

Hopefully enough Democrats in congress will be able to set their partisanship aside long enough to help Americans.

Pelosi impeached Trump for delaying aid to Ukraine, she delayed aid to the US.

Big corporations have big numbers of employees. It's ok to help them too.

These Cruise lines employ a LOT of Americans, and some are indicating a willingness to base out of the US.

Carnival Cruise Line has told Trump “We can match those big Navy Hospital ships with some fully staffed cruise ships”.

GM and Ford have said “hold our cars and watch this — we can make ventilators where we were just making car parts, starting next week” — by re-engineering seat ventilators which their engineers hacked together for a new purpose. In under a week.

Restaurants and schools have said, “we’ve got kitchens and staff; we can feed the poor kids who used have school lunch.”

NBA basketball players have said, “Hold our basketballs while we write checks to pay the arena staff.”

Construction companies are saying, “Here are some high-end masks for medical staff and doctors”.

Distilleries are making sanitizer out of distilling “heads and tails” which are normally discarded. Nasty **** to drink, but effective sanitizer.

People are tipping grocery check-out clerks and thanking them for taking the risk.

As Japanese Admiral Isokuru Yamamoto said, after Pearl Harbor … “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

Watch America stand up, pull together and weather this storm in unity. Except for Pelosi, she's cracked and well past her sell by date.

    Probably time for fresh leadership:

You know what's really tragic, Steve...? I figured out from reading some of your posts that you are a Conservative kind of guy -- very much like me. Why did you start jumping on me? My guess (again, from reading your posts) is that we probably agree on at least 80% of everything going on today, and that's quite a lot. Example: I'm sure that both of us would like it if 'they' would discover a wonder drug that would stop this Coronavirus in its tracks immediately.

Well... see you on down the line. Have a pleasant weekend.
