$1200 per person doesn't make sense. Some people make less than that before the virus and if we give them $1200 it'd incentivize them to keep the virus going. Other people make 20x that amount so $1200 would cover only 5% of their income. The amount received should be based on income. If you make $400 you get $400, if you make $40,000 you get $40,000.
The goal is to avoid delay. It seems to be a bipartisan belief that getting aid out quickly will be better for the economy than getting aid out accurately. So they're just adding a lump sum to UI and calling it a day.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...onavirus-emergency-aid/ar-BB11HPnj?li=BBnb7Kz The bill is being held up by REPUBLICANS trying to hold down the amount of unemployment laid off workers can get Jesus
You should get what you need to barely scrape by. People who have money should be saving for a rainy day. If you didn't then that's your fault. You cannot rely on the government.
I have always gone by the rule of thumb of always having at least 4 months of provisions on hand, just in case.
Isn't it rather humorous in a way, in that for the last several days conservatives have been going on an on about how Nancy Pelosi is blocking everything trying to force pork into the virus bills. Of course none of that has been proven to be true. However, the bill, as Moscow Mitch first proposed it, was mostly just a giveaway to corporations without oversight , decided by the Trump administration. It might of passed if not for five Republicans being infected by the virus. Thus the Democrats held all the cards and forced the Republicans to change the bill to help average people. They even forced a provision that Trump and his get nothing from the stimulus. Even the help corporations get is conditional on them using the money to pay employees and not enrich top management. Once again proving that the Republicans mostly care about the wealthy and the well connected while the Democrats mostly care about the people. Further illustrating how conservatives tend to vote against their own self interests.
The correct amount should be zero. This isn't a stimulus. It is a small gift to show the public how Congress takes care of the people in tough times. Actually it takes care of nothing. But, hey, it is only a couple of trillion. No big deal.
Paying the rich the same might convince them that they are not valued any more, nor is THEIR life, than anyone else. EVEN thought ath is proven false, by Trump testing folks, according to their closeness and ass kissingness to his highness.
While we are at it, they should be able to go into the market, or RATHER, their servants, along with the elderly and vulnerable, before everyone else. After all, they are WORTH more than us peons.
Why should ANYONE get a check? If we are going to pay FULL salaries (via unemployment compensation) to those who lost their jobs as a result of this, then we've made them whole already. Why should all the people still working (and at home, saving on commuting expenses) end up getting more money than they would have earned had this never happened? And yes, I agree with the poster upthread who said people should save more. Other than the low-income hourly workers who scrape by, there is no excuse for people earning above-average salaries to spend every dime and not have a rainy day fund. We have people complaining that $200K couples should get a check too!
Sure, why don't give the whole stimulus to the corporate billionaires? They definitely could use it right now. Maybe they'll create some jobs. Or, they could use it for another stock buyback and then come with begging hands to the government for another bailout.
I doubt it. I am embarrassed, though, that he listened to whomever gave him the advice to do this. Common sense says it is bad for everybody and the economy.
Very likely. After all, going by his recent tweet, his "re-election success" seems to be more important to him than anything else, be it the deficit, or the health of his fellow citizens.
Ridiculous. The point is to get money into the hands of people that will spend it now: rent/mortgages, utilities, food...the basics. The only problem I see with one off is they’re going to need to do it again.
