    Garbage in, garbage out.

Anybody who thinks they can figure this out at this point with a pencil and a calculator is kidding themselves.

Point taken, and thanks for the data. My point is that the flu which has affected our nation far more than Covid19, has not caused "blood in the streets".

Before that, China told no one. They buried the findings, and let it escape into the world via tourists and travelers. They even punished those Chinese Doctors who posted early warnings. Shortly after discovery, Trump issued quarantines and travel bans. Our government has done pretty much all that could be done within reason, balancing lives with liberty and economic health.

true flu is affected more ppl in this country than cov19, but in this case we want over react rather than down play it mainly because its much more contiguous and lethal. if we do that, at worst few month from now, we just said we over reacted. but if we dont take it seriously, down the line, we could say "oh ****, why didn't we prepared at the beginning". hope for the best prepare for the worst.

not according to WHO. also china lockdown 60million ppl, no one in or out except trucker for food. the highway into cities are shutdown, we didn't do that. they also have apps and AI to track every movement of their citizen, which they use to track who got infect and their contact etc. furthermore they are making 100million mask/day, and everyone is wearing it. they treat it as everyone is sick.

I hesitatingly agree. But if in the future we conclude that we over reacted, that acknowledgement must bring onto the stage the fact that we are now several trillion dollars more in debt...unnecessarily. Then again, this may all be a good lesson or exercise in preparedness, individually and as a nation. I hope you are right.

It was in response to a thread about "bloodshed" coming. Theres a difference between preparing and stirring panic. Are grocery, restaurant, and delivery workers supposed to stay home? What about those delivering necessities to the elderly? You are welcome to curl up in a ball and shiver if you like. There are no guarantees in life. People are anxious enough as it is and those crying bloodshed are part of the problem.

Im not sure how you got that from my post. No one is discussing intentionally infecting others.

I don't think we've over-reacted. The Diamond Princess had 3,700 people on board when they got thrown into quarantine. At the end of the two weeks, over 700 of them were sick. That's an 18.9% infection rate, or 189,000 per million for people in close distance. That would equate to 56,700,000 people sick in the United States. We know the infection rate is much lower when people stay away from each other.

When you're dealing with a virus, if you're not overreacting you're losing.

Just a heads up folks, this Wednesday is the first of the month. Not only is it welfare day, it is when government employees get paid. Everybody knows shopping during the first of the month is madness anyway, I expect if to be far worse next week. Get your chit now.

Sure it does. It means that this isn't nearly as deadly as you are acting like it is. Even a 1.54% rate is very low.

You're right. Lying DOES "flatten the growth curve".

Shutting down the economy of a nation is "nothing significant"?? ... tell that to all of the people currently unemployed. A $2T relief bill is "nothing significant"??

    More fear mongering...

A 0.005% infection rate is nothing to be anxious about. A death rate of 0.00012% is nothing to be anxious about.

    Correct. My point exactly.

    No it isn't.

Random numbers... meaningless. My numbers are based on actual reports which have come out (to date).

We've had 30K deaths from this in ONE month. Does that even resonate with you? It's exponential. People who aren't taking this thing seriously are the reason it continues to grow, EXPONENTIALLY.

    3/21 - 1,627
    3/24 - 2,307
    3/27 - 3,243

The number of deaths is climbing exponentially.

At our current rate of growth, we will be at 100K+ deaths in less than two weeks.

However, the overall profile of COVID-19 is more serious.
Where did you get your doctorate in infectious diseases?

We have surpassed Italy in cases.
Italy took measures to control the crises they faced, tRUMP and USA has not.

And it shows, it's not the common flu. Just was wondering if you used real stats in your analysis.

Seem? No - it's right there in bold letters. gfm has no idea what he's talking about. Zero.
