It's high enough to wipe out 25% of the stock market, trigger a recession and force the government to vote the biggest bailout in history.

While you're taking it lightly, pragmatic people are trying to get the country out of trouble.

Odd that he thinks the biggest economic shutdown and biggest stimulus package in history is nothing.

In Italy, about 10% of people known to be infected have died. Fifty doctors have died in Italy from Covid-19. In Iran and Spain, the case fatality rate is higher than 7%. But in South Korea and the U.S. it's less than 1.5%. And in Germany, the figure is close to 0.5%. Today, more than 3 million Americans have been infected and studies show that fewer than 1% become seriously ill. https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsa...death-rates-from-coronavirus-can-be-deceiving

I may have had coronavirus. I had a consult with my gastroenterologist yesterday by phone. I described what I've had starting in Dec. continuing to March. He said 'It sounds as though you've had this virus. You qualify according to CDC guidelines to be tested. But, you have recovered and it is up to you as to whether you choose to have the test." I declined of course because I'm recovering, and I don't want to use up one test that might benefit someone else. But my point is that we're seeing the statistics and numbers only of people that are sick or tested positive and had no severe illness. Nobody has tested people like me who may have already had coronavirus and their immune system was healthy enough to fight the virus.

The Diamond Princess had 3,700 people quarantined together for two weeks. 700 of them got the virus during that time. That's a 18.9% infection rate.

Do your doom and gloom predictions on the death and destruction from the economic shutdown triggered by over reaction.

It will be far greater world wide than the virus could be. How many will die of starvation, disease and extreme poverty cause by this shutdown? How much violence will occur because of it? The "cure" is this case will be far worse and more prolonged than the "sickness".

My husband and I are in the same boat. We got it four weeks ago. We're fine, now - still a bit tired with a pesky lingering cough, but that's it. We also don't want to take up a test - it seems a moot point.

In 14 days, if the trend continues, 2 million Americans will be infected.

Try to convince people to go to work and buy stuff as usual when hospitals are overflowing, when there are 1,000 deaths/day and when the army and the police are restricting travel.

    Good luck.

    We stopped having 1,000 deaths/day on the 18th. We're now at over 3K deaths/day.

I would encourage anyone interested in actual facts, instead of burying their head in the sand, to head on over to Statistikhengst's thread on this. No politics, no drama, no hyperbole - just facts.

I had a one-two punch. Started end of Dec with a severe upper respiratory, I thought I'd die. A few weeks later, diarrhea and vomiting for 72 hours. At that point, I could barely walk. I'm getting better slowly but my immune system has been kicked into overdrive and I have the 'Malar rash'. People sometime get blisters with this but I didn't. It just looks like I've been out in the sun for a few hours and got burned. Doctor tells me it was a response to a severe trigger of my immune system and will subside.

I hope you both feel better soon. We're all being forced to recuperate now, whether we want to or not.

That's the panic that did that. You sound like panic, not pragmatism.

Nearly everyone has already been infected. We test very little of them and only the ones that are likely to make the death rate look higher than it really is?

Trump says take the guns first, due process later

if someone pulls a gun on the cops there to take their guns, they probably won't live long

we all have to use commn sense

owning a gun may or may not make you live longer, each person has to weigh the risk\reward for themselves

    the reality is
there are risks to owning a gun
there are risks to not owning a gun

The rapid rise has to do with the availability of testing supplies not the spread.

How do you explain the exponential number of deaths? 30K deaths in just one month.

    3/17 - less than 1K deaths
    3/23 under 2K deaths
    3/26 under 3K deaths

We've been over 3K deaths/day for the past two days.

How often does the flu kill 30,000 people in a month?

It's the media hyping the thing up to a fever pitch. That never happened with the H1N1 Swine flu because Obama was President.

More and more people are getting tested that's why the number of cases is going u[p so fast.. Where are you getting 3,000 deaths a day from? The total deaths in the US so far is 1,892 according to CNN as of today.

Did you read my post at all? The total deaths in the US so far is 2,000 according to CNN as of today. That's since it started in Washington State.

2 Million already are I would wager. Just don't know it because they have not been tested and the vast majority will shake it off like a minor cold.

Well at 1,000 deaths a day your gonna miss your earlier predictions by, well a lot...

"Depending on whether people decide to isolate and disobey Trump, we can still statistically predict that at least 400,000 people will die by June.... if not more.

If only 10% of the population is affected, which is expected to happen by the end of April, the number of deaths will be 560,000 for the first six months of the year. "

Remember posting this dribble back on page 4?

Do you sue dice to come up with these numbers?

We got 20,000 new cases TODAY - one day!

And, Trump is livid that NYC isn't sufficiently "appreciative" after getting 4,000 (which he falsely bragged was 8,000) vents when medical science says they will need 30,000 to 40,000.

You're trying to gauge off of how many have died. But, that is a trailing indicator - essentially useless as a sole datapoint n planning.

And, if our hospitals get overrun, the death count will rise even faster due to our inability to adequately treat patients.

We have to look AHEAD, nob behind. We do have some lead time in many pleaces. Wasting that will leave people dead.

Professor Peabody thinks science is for suckers. I'm done talking to him. It's easier to reason with a piece of cheese.

A lot and I mean a lot of what is being posted as "science" is anything but. Like the doom and gloom BS on this very thread.

If you have questions, then ask for cites or further explanation.

And, I don't quite know why you would criticize this thread for the fact that the projections from medical experts for this disease aren't good. Are you begging for fake news?

How is it good news to find out that there're a lot of cases by testing people?
